Q: How much is it to exchange for a new bottle

  • Gaspony
A: Good afternoon, the following link will take you directly to the purchase section on the website. Since you already own your own bottle, it is simply paying for the contents of the bottle at that point and exchanging. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/thoroughbred-shielding-gas-contents-1-size-20-cu-ft-3800158 Thank you, -Thoroughbred Team

Q: Are these tanks DOT stamped, dated and inspected?

1 Answer
  • Gaspony
A: We purchase and sell a combination of both DOT and UN/ISO tanks, which are equivalent to DOT/TC rated cylinders in the USA. We have been using both types of tanks for over 15 years. UN/ISO is a worldwide harmonized regulation for compressed gas cylinders. UN/ISO service pressures are at or above the common fill pressure of a DOT cylinder with a +10% overfill designation. Both UN/ISO and DOT cylinders are manufactured in the USA and other foreign countries, they have the same dimensions, internal water volume, steel chemistry and valve compatibility. Hope this information helps you, have a great day!

Q: How much welding can get done with a 20 Cu Ft bottle? I’m not expecting to use this more than a couple times a year, but don’t really want to be out of gas every time it gets used.

1 Answer
  • A: Hi, Here is the information we received back from our vendor- "A 20 cubic foot bottle would last one hour if it were set at 20 cu. ft per hour flow. This will vary depending on the operators skill level."

Unable to exchange, overpriced. DON'T USE.

DON'T USE THIS SERVICE. First, it's insanely overpriced. Support a local welding supply shop instead. For $75 more, I got a 244 c ft bottle. Almost quadruple the capacity. Additionally, the biggest issue is barely any stores stock these. I checked numerous stores in my area, and every one of the employees I asked to exchange my tank looked at me like I was crazy, and had no clue what I was talking about. So now, I have a useless $300 paperweight I can't get filled anywhere in my area.

Winemaking help from TSC!

The gas cylinder I bought at TSC works great for me. I am using it in my wine making hobby to lay a blanket of the heavier than air gas on top of my wine to protect it from oxygen as it ages. Even though I bought the smallest, #1 tank, each fill of gas will last me a long time for my purpose. It was a very good purchase for me. 🙂

Should have went with a bigger tank.

This gas works well with a small wire feed welder. However, get a bigger cylinder unless you only weld small projects occasionally. I’m working on a go kart and this cylinder didn’t last near as long as I thought it would. Actually, my welding cart is set up for a tall cylinder.
