Use the Spectramast DC Dry Cow Formula to help treat cases of subclinical mastitis. Spectramast DC is effective against several pathogens, including Streptococcus uberis, Streptococcus dysgalactiae and Staphylococcus aureus, and does not require milk discard, meaning it's a flexible treatment option for your cattle. Each 10 mL disposable plastet syringe contains 500 mg of ceftiofur. Spectramast DC is FDA approved and is intended for intramammary infusion in dry dairy cattle only. How it Works
Ceftiofur, a broad-spectrum antibiotic, belongs to the cephalosporin class. These antibiotics work by inhibiting the synthesis of the cell wall. Like other types of B-lactam antimicrobials, cephalosporin antibiotics enact this synthesis by interfering with the specific enzymes that cause peptidoglycan synthesis. This results in bacterial cell lysis, which is responsible for the bactericidal action.
Special Precautions
- In case of allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, hives, skin rash, etc.), seek veterinary or medical treatment.
- Contaminated clothing should be removed.
- If accidental exposure with the skin occurs, thoroughly wash using soap and water.
- If accidental exposure with the eyes occurs, thoroughly flush using water for a period of 15 minutes.
- People with known cephalosporin or penicillin hypersensitivities should not be exposed to this product.
- Skin sensitization can be avoided with the use of protective gloves.
- Do not allow direct clothing, mouth, eye, or skin contact.
- Prolonged or repeated exposure can cause sensitization.
- Topical antimicrobial/ceftiofur exposure can cause a mild or severe allergic reaction in certain individuals.
- Cephalosporins and penicillins may cause an allergic reaction in a sensitized individual.
- Keep out of reach of animals and children.

Ceftiofur Hydrochloride Sterile Suspension. Available in 12 x 10 ml disposable syringes or 144 x 10 ml disposable syringes. Ceftiofur Hydrochloride Sterile Suspension is an oil based sterile suspension. Also includes 12 or 144 individually wrapped 70% isopropyl alcohol pads. Each 10 mL PLASTET® Disposable Syringe Contains: Ceftiofur Equivalents (as the hydrochloride salt) 500 mg, Microcrystalline Wax 700 mg, Oleoyl Polyoxylglyceride 500 mg, Cottonseed Oil q.s.
Not for oral administration. Dosage:
Infuse one (1) syringe into each affected quarter at the time of dry off.
Directions For Using The Plastet Disposable Syringe:
The syringe is designed to provide the choice of either insertion of the full cannula as has traditionally been practiced, or insertion of no more than 1/8 inch of the cannula, as reported by fiberhart, R.J., et. al. 1987. Current Concepts of Bovine Mastitis, 3rd Edition, National Mastitis Council, Arlington, VA.
a. Full insertion: Remove the red end cap by pulling straight up as shown. Gently insert the full cannula into the teat canal; carefully infuse the product.
b. Partial insertion: Remove the red end cap by pulling straight up as shown. Gently insert the exposed white tip into the teat canal; carefully infuse the product.
Administration:
Treatment: Wash teats thoroughly with warm water containing a suitable dairy antiseptic. Dry teats thoroughly. Milk out udder completely. Using an alcohol pad provided, wipe off the end of the affected teat using a separate pad for each teat. Choose the desired insertion length (full or partial) and insert tip into teat canal; push plunger to dispense entire contents, massage the quarter to distribute the suspension into the milk cistern.
Reinfection:
After successful treatment, reinfection may occur unless good herd management, sanitation, and mechanical safety measures are practiced. Affected cows should be watched carefully to detect recurrence of infection and possible spread to other animals.
