Stylish and formidably functional, it's everything you'd expect a tool designed by renowned Japanese knife designer Kiku Matsuda to be. This knife features a four inch 3V steel blade with a modified tanto design and a beautiful satin finish. Overall, from its blade tip to the butt of the elegant Micarta handle, it measures nine inches, providing an in-hand feel that's perfectly balanced. Featuring the SOG XR lock, which can withstand 1,500 pounds of force, users can trust in the ultimate security when the blade is deployed, and enjoy a folding knife with the lock up of a fixed blade.

  • Kiku Matsuda is a renowned Japanese knife designer known for his meticulous craftsmanship and unique fusion of traditional techniques with modern aesthetics. His knives are celebrated for their precision, functionality, and striking beauty. Matsuda blends elements from both Japanese and Western styles, creating tools that are not only visually stunning but also incredibly durable and sharp.
  • The new Hidaka XR has a one-inch longer blade than the original Kiku XR design. And, the blade is now made from 3V steel. The larger size and new steel type make this new version an outstanding choice for heavy outdoor tasks.
  • It's a knife made for hard outdoor use featuring a modified tanto 3V steel blade, grippy and beautiful micarta handle scales, and SOG's renowned and high-performing XR lock.
  • Reliable and powerful, able to withstand up to 1,500 pounds of force, provides the ultimate built-in blade locking security when open and ensures it only opens when intended. XR lock provides a lock-up that almost feels like a fixed blade.

Lovely blade shape!

I absolutely love this knife. It has high quality steel (3V) and the finish is beautiful. The action is silky smooth and operates without any resistance at all. Most importantly the Micarta handle feels good in the hand. I especially love the shape of the blade. So much so that I also bought the fixed blade version. I am not too keen on a knife made in Taiwan but made an exception for this beauty.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great blade shape

I wrote a prior review based on initial assessment and I wanted to edit it as I’ve had a little over a week with a knife now. I think the handle is very ergonomic and easy to hold. The jimping on the spine of it for your thumb gives a good traction. The blade is very sharp and quite robust. The blade is not overly heavy or uncomfortable to carry in your pocket. I still believe the blade action is quite slow to open if you are relying on using your index finger to flick the blade open. I have found that if you pull down on both tabs and snap your wrist the blade opens quite quickly. It would be nice to have a secondary thumb stud on the blade.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Near perfection

This is (very nearly) the knife I have been waiting for: compound grind tanto with a strong lock, micarta and 3V with a .15" spine. Smooth action, good ergonomics - great design and materials well executed. My only complaint? This is advertised as a 4" blade. There is no ruler on the planet that can make it 4". It's a 3.5 " blade - period. Also, I would have appreciated thumb studs in addition to a flipper for additional opening options. So close to perfect. All that said, it's a terrific tactical, EDC, hard use folding knife.

Yes, I recommend this product.
