Q: Can it damage shingled roofs

  • A: Hello Neighbor, Yes, roof raking can cause damage to your roof shingles by scraping away granules. It is commonly considered to be a necessary evil, as it can also can prevent ice dams from forming and causing leaks and more extensive damage to your home.

Needs modifications to be a better product

Overall thought concept is good. Objective is to get snow off the roof. Problems: snap together 4’ pipes should telescope deeper into the previous pipe. This might help prevent flex of the 20’ pole? Second issue I have is I have a metal roof and most metal roofs have the screws securing the roof down are on the rib not on the flat surface. When I used this device the first time it kept getting hung up on the screw heads. Thirdly the small wheels serve no purpose at all from what I can see. Way too small! Only way the wheels ever touch is if you lift the handle end ver high in the air in order for wheels to ever touch. I’m 6’3” tall and could never get wheels to touch anything. If wheels were taller they would lift blade up and over screw heads and not let the metal blade surface scrape/scratch the colored roof metal. The cutting side should be rubber to prevent scratching metal and prevent scraping granules off of a shingle roof. Is it not critical to remove every inch of snow from the roof. Objective is to get the majority. Taller rolling wheels when allow 90% of snow to be remove maybe leaving 2” of snow or maybe better allow adjustments on the taller wheels that would make this product useful for shingle or metal ribs roof. I plan to modify this product as it is very light in weight rich is a must when lifting it up and extending it the 20’ yo start pulling snow off the roof. I work for a restoration company and during winter get many calls about ice dams backing up on roof from drifting snow. I think this could be a fantastic product but needs some modifications. If interested I can show you my modifications once I’m done resolving issues with the product?

Better than any snow shovel

This has replaced my snow shovel for my driveway. I can push or pull with ease. It’s not even close. I did my 100 ft driveway in 30 minutes with 4 inches of snow on the ground.

May work with some roofs, not all

Must be the angle of my roof, but the wheels don’t provide sufficient distance between the shingles and the bottom of the rake, so the rake is scraping the snow directly off the shingles. Not optimal.
