Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 diesel engine oil is a full synthetic motor oil that features exclusive Triple Protection Plus technology. It's formulated with fully synthetic base oils plus advanced additives to protect against wear, deposits, and oil breakdown. It also provides better low-temperature flow and enhanced fuel economy performance of 1.5% (compared to 15W-40 oils). Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 is suitable for new and older diesel-powered vehicles from Class 8 tractor/trailers to heavy-duty diesel pickups, delivery, utility, school bus fleets, and motorcycles. Q: I have been using Rotella T4 15W40 in my diesel tractor engine. The store where I purchase the oil was out of the T4, so I purchased Rotella T6 15W40 and used it in the same engine at regular oil change. Is there any problems associated with switching?

Q: What is recommended for a Diesel Cat engine that has 1,000,000 miles? 15W40 or 5W40 synthetic and why?
5 years ago- A: 5W-40 is good for colder weather starts, especially if a block heater isn’t used or available. 15W-40 is likely what your diesel calls for, but I’ve run 5W-40 in my F350 for years without any issues. Different engine and operating condition than the Cat, but the principle of oil weight is the same. And always choose a synthetic over a conventional oil. I have since moved to AMSOIL for all my vehicles due to extended drain intervals (saves time and money), superior protection, and free shipping to my house.5 years agoHelpful?

Q: I got a 5.9 Cummings turbo diesel I currently run Shell Rotella 15/40 oil now I’d like to switch to synthetic I have 66,000 miles on it now would this 5/40 synthetic oil be good for this motor especially in Michigan winters?
6 years ago- A: First, synthetic oil provides superior protection vs. a conventional lubricant which is what Rotella T4 15W40 is. Next, Rotella T6 5W40 grade full synthetic will perform better particularly in colder weather climates. The lubricant will flow faster during the key start up phase of the engine.
