Another reviewer said that the design of this jacket is sexist. I have to agree. First, as she mentioned, it has fewer pockets than the men’s version. Why?? It’s a jacket for outdoor activities. Outdoors women don’t carry a purse around with them to hold our keys, wallets, and gear. Those days are long gone. More importantly, the shape of this jacket fits a very old stereotype of women as having hourglass figures. Well, less than 10% of women have that shape!! The most common shape (46%-70%) is the rectangle! That would be me. To make this jacket fit me in the waist I had to go up one size. Then I have to thread a bungee cord through the bottom hem to cinch up the hips with a toggle. Another sexist thing: The men’s version has an adjustable velcro strap at the wrist to keep out the cold and to compensate if the sleeves are a bit too long. The women’s does not. The sleeves are about 3 inches too long for me. I will have to put elastic in the wrists to tighten and shorten them. (I’m 5’5”, which is kind of average, not short.) I tried a smaller size, and while it “kinda” fit me, the waist was too small and the sleeves were too narrow––another common problem with women’s wear that makes it hard to put the jacket on over a sweater or thin fleece, because the sweater sticks to the inner fabric of the jacket sleeves, especially because the sleeves are too narrow. The men’s jacket has no such problems––the sleeves are very ample. These design problems are disappointing in this day and age. By Tractor Supply’s own marketing, the Ridgecut brand is supposed to be for rugged outdoor activities. But the designers adopted stereotypes of women that have been outdated for several decades. This is a very common problem in the sports clothing industry––I guess companies think we will buy a jacket because it looks slim in the photo with that small waist. I’m just really disappointed that Tractor Supply forgot to tell their designers that women who shop at Tractor Supply are more interested in comfort and practicality than meeting male stereotypes of femininity. We want to be able to keep the cold wind out of our sleeves and the bottom of our jacket. We want to be able to put it on easily over our sweater. Course, we want to look good for the cows, but that’s secondary. Why did I buy this jacket if I hate it so much? Because it was less than half price and I like the color.
