Q: What is a "Mechanical safety break load?"  How does it work?   Is it a brake of some sort"

1 Answer
  • A: The mechanical load brake is a key component of crane safety. It serves as a secondary braking mechanism of the crane hoist, controlling the lowering speeds of rated loads and preventing loads from free falling. All of the torque of a hoist motor is applied to lifting loads.

good hoist for the money

I presently have 2 of these in my shop. They are used for general vertical lifting and I have had 0 problems thus far. However, that being said, they are not a top of the line hoist. There are no funneling plates to guide the lift chain. Therefore, it is a vertical hoist and not well suited for horizontal pulling or off vertical lifts as these conditions will cause the lifting chain to bind. But for the money I have had 2 in use for about 2 yrs now with no issues.

Piece of junk

I bought this today to raise a few beams, I hadn't been able to raise the chain with no load. I pull the hand chain about 1 foot and it stops like it is bound up. I check it... Back it up.... Try again... It may go another foot and jam. Or it may just pull around 6 inches... In ten minutes I've managed to lift the bare load chain 3 feet. And I repeat with no load!
