Q: Will this help with FFWS?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. Purina Outlast Gastric Support is designed to help support a horse’s gastric health by buffering stomach acid and promoting digestive comfort. However, we’re not certain what you mean by “FFWS,” and because this could refer to a specific condition or health concern, the safest course of action is to consult your veterinarian before using the supplement. They can advise whether it’s appropriate for your horse’s particular needs.

Q: I have a 20 year old gelding that is prone to runny stools, will this help his hind gut health?

1 Answer
  • Purina Product Expert
A: The Outlast supplement has not been evaluated to support horses with hindgut ulcers. However, horses with this condition may also have gastric distress, and Outlast was designed to promote gastric comfort and proper pH in the stomach. In addition to providing gastric support, our gastric support feeds Ultium Gastric Care and Race Ready GT contain highly digestible fiber sources to support an optimal hindgut environment, plus our specialized yeast extract shown to provide immune support for horses affected by the stress of competition. Proper diagnosis by a veterinarian is also recommended for any suspected digestive or inflammatory conditions.

Q: How long does a bag usually last for horse owners?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi there, The feeding rate for both the top-dress and the snack is 20 grams per 100 to 125 lbs. body weight. For example, a 1,000 to 1,250 lb. horse would receive 200 grams of the supplement per feeding. This feeding rate is equivalent to 1.25 cups (10 ounces with a dry-good measuring cup). See chart for specific recommendations. Typical feeding rate is 3 to 4 times per day -- top-dressed with each meal and a snack 30 to 60 minutes prior to a stressful event. Do not feed more than 6 times per day at the recommended rates for your horse's weight. Using this information it should last a few 13-15 days

Purina Outlast Is Just What the Vet Ordered

My horse suffers from ulcers and my vet recommended feeding him Purina Outlast an hour before I ride him (he also gets it as a top dressing on his evening meal). I've been doing this for about two weeks now. He loves to eat it as a "snack" and I feel good knowing it's helping soothe the gastric juices once we get to work. So far, I'm happy with this product and feel good knowing my vet feels Outlast is the way to go in our situation.
