- A: We appreciate you asking about this, Abbie! This would be excess carbon residue from the inside of the filter. Though harmless as this is only the same material that removes bad tastes and odors from the water, this residue can be largely prevented by rinsing the filter under cool water until the water runs clear before placing it in the fountain. Though some slight residue may still occur after this, it will be minimal.10 months agoHelpful?

Good quality

I make sure I clean it every week. I’m sure a person wouldn’t have to do this but my kitten gets her food in it. I do find it hard to line the top piece to the spout. But my kitten enjoys it. Has good streams you can pick from. Easy to put the filter in.
