Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension, which is a steroid eye drop formulated specifically for horses, cats and dogs. Prednisolone acetate is often prescribed to help manage eye infections, injuries and surgeries, providing symptom relief and promoting healing. These pet eye drops are easy to apply and sold in a 5 mL bottle. How it Works
Prednisolone acetate contains 3 to 5 times the anti-inflammatory power of hydrocortisone based on weight. This product is a glucocorticoid which inhibits:
- Phagocytic migration
- Capillary dilation
- Fibrin deposition
- Edema (all of the acute inflammatory response)
- Scar formation
- Deposition of collagen
- Capillary proliferation
Talk to your doctor about other eye medication or drops your pet is using before you use Prednisolone Acetate Ophthalmic Suspension 1%. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet has any of the following symptoms:
- Difficulty breathing
- Itching
- Facial swelling
Side Effects
Using corticosteroids for a prolonged period of time could damage the optic nerve from the development of glaucoma. It could also cause formation of posterior subcapsular cataracts or defects in fields of vision and visual acuity.
Secondary ocular infections have an increased risk, as prolonged use may suppress the immune response.
Storage
Store in a dry and cool environment. Do not exceed 25°C (77°F). Protect from freezing. Store in an upright position.
Tips
Before using, shake product well. Two to four times a day, apply 1 to 2 drops onto the eye.
Dosing frequency can be increased if needed during the first 24 to 48 hours of administration.
Do not discontinue therapy early, even if your pet seems to be getting better.
