Generally, the transition period is over a week's time, beginning with a 25% inclusion of the new food, and depending on how the animal responds slowly increasing the ratio of the new food over the next 5-7 days until reaching 100% of the total food offering. Each animal is unique and their digestive capacity will need to be gauged by their owner on how slow this transition should be, as some will extend it over 10 days. As a topper, a product can be added to the pet's current food at 10-20% of the total calories offered for increased food enjoyment and complimentary nutrition, but the owner will need to be mindful to reduce or slow the introduction of the new food if their pet shows digestive upset.
