Stop fire ants from taking over your lawn with Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1. This easy-to-apply product destroys the mound and kills the queen. Plus, this pest control product begins killing in 60 minutes, so you can get your yard back fast. Use it as a mound treatment for home lawns and around ornamental plants including flowers, shrubs and trees. To apply, simply sprinkle powder over the mound. Follow label instructions to determine how much product is needed based on mound size. This product does not need to be watered in, and can be applied anytime you see a new mound forming. For best results, apply product while ants are active. One 12 oz. bottle of Ortho Orthene Fire Ant Killer1 treats up to 162 mounds. However this is not registered for use directly on ornamental plants, trees or shrubs, it may be used around and up to the base of ornamental plants, trees or shrubs. Do not allow the product to contact the foliage. If the product is accidentally applied to a plant, wash the plant off with water.a year agoHelpful?

Q: Are the Ortho Fire Ant Killer Step 1 and Ortho Fire Ant Killer Broadcast Granules safe to use in pastures that will be used for grazing animals? We have two acres and about 30 nasty fire ant piles we need to get rid of. We also have a dog & cat.

I received this ortho ant killer in exchange for my honest review
So love how clear the label it the ease at opening it and the bottle is sleek, however that’s about it for me… It smelled horrible when I opened it it blew up at me glad I did it outside. I sprinkled it on gave it its time and still just ants for days. Also huge pain had to chaperone the dog make sure she and none of the kids went over there I get it’s a killer but ugh. I might give it another try I’ll update if it changes my mind. It is got a good price I guess

Smelly but effective.

I have a few red ant mounds in my mulch beds below my plants. I’ve noticed an increase in red ants in the porch since my plants have been planted and are growing. They love crawling around in there… I don’t care for them much. Using this product I’ve seen a slight decrease in red ants on my porch now, they are still there but not as many. The product is easy to open with the help of the lid notch, just read the directions. It has a unique smell that I’m not a fan of, but I’m sure it’s helpful to the ants. I sprinkled I’d say maybe a teaspoon over the mulch where the ants are but it looks a lot. The whiten powder can’t deter people from touching and staying away. When using I suggest wearing gloves and a mask. There is a lot of dust kickback.

SUPER Effective!

This Fire Ant Killer is SUPER effective! After 3 days 3/4 of the mounds I treated are completely gone. The one that is still only slightly active went deeper than I realized and will be getting another treatment, but it's 99% clear. The smell is very mild compared to other fire ant killer products. It's so easy to apply. The timing of application is the hardest part since you have to avoid rainy days. And you get a LOT of product for the price.

Great product for stopping pesky ants!

This worked really well to stop the ants from coming into my home. The small container makes it easy to store. The thin powder texture allows for deeper penetration of the ant hill. Definitely worth the price!
