Boots were terribly scratched up

The boots style wise looked good but were terribly scratched along the sides, I’m guessing from the soles being cut/shaped. Looked like tool marks. I had to use a brown liquid eyeliner to fill in the scratches and blend in with the darker brown shades in the leather. They were ordered for a 13 year old who won’t notice, but if they were for me or an adult, would have sent them back.
