Q: Where is the feed made and where are the ingredients sourced from?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. Nutrena feed plants are located in the US. There are a few vitamins used in our formulas not available to purchase in the US and are sourced outside; the vitamins are purchased from a US company that certifies/verifies their purity and safety before they are sent to our plant for use. All proteins, fats and carbohydrates are sourced from North America.

Q: What is the Niacin content in this feed? This feed meet my ducks requirements as well?

Q: Can I feed this to my everday laying hens? I can only find a 16% protein feed but am looking for a 18%

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. Chick Starter feeds are higher in protein, but lower in calcium/phosphorus levels which are beneficial for egg quality in layers. There is an 18% protein option with NatureWise Harvest Blend, formulated for adult laying hens - https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/nutrena-naturewise-harvest-blend-egg-layer-textured-feed

Q: Can I feed this to non-vaccinated chicks?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. NatureWise 18% Starter/Grower can be fed to unvaccinated chicks; for coccidiosis prevention there is a medicated version available https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/nutrena-naturewise-chick-starter-grower-medicated-91582-a7

Q: In response to my last question, you suggested layer crumble for non-laying chickens. Doesn't the extra calcium in layer feed strain the kidneys of non-laying chickens?

1 Answer
  • A: Higher calcium layer feed could be an issue for roosters if fed long term; for hens that are in a rest period (weather, molt) layer feed should be OK; NatureWise Starter Grower Crumble has lower calcium levels so it can be a good option for your particular situation and your flock prefers a crumble.

Q: Your all flock feed is pelleted, and my non-laying chickens will not eat pelleted feed. I will ask again, is this feed safe for adult, non-laying chickens? (This is a "yes" or "no" question.)

1 Answer
  • A: Yes - with the suggestion of a lower protein option in crumble https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/nutrena-naturewise-layer-16-crumbles-50-lb

Q: Is this feed nutritionally safe for non-laying hens (e.g., during winter months) and roosters?

1 Answer
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry. For mixed flocks including layers and roosters NatureWise All Flock is the recommended feed - https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/nutrena-naturewise-all-flock-pellet-40-lb-bag - when hens return to laying, NatureWise Layer Crumble would be a good choice https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/nutrena-naturewise-layer-16-crumbles-50-lb

Bags are 40lb not 50!!!

The bags are advertised as 50lb but comes in 40 lb. I was shorted 70 lbs of feed as a result of this and when I complained, was basically told oh well that darn website and given no compensation

Amazing Feed

I have been feeding Nutrena Chick Starter and Grower for about 5 years now. And for every set of chicks I’ve had. I only ever had one issue and Nutrena was super quick to help me out. My chicks have never had digestion issues. And have always grown very well. At one time I had to use a different food and I could notice the difference and will always feed Nutrena to my Chicks and Chickens.

Yes, I recommend this product.
