Item Information

The National Presto 16 qt. Pressure Canner is designed for easy, confident home pressure canning. It's the only method recommended safe by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for canning low-acid foods such as vegetables, meats, poultry, and fish.

  • Deluxe pressure dial gauge registers the complete range of processing pressures
  • Doubles as a boiling-water canner for preserving fruits, jams, jellies, pickles, and salsa in pint and half-pint jars
  • Special air vent/cover lock allows pressure to build only when the cover is closed properly and prevents the cover from being opened until pressure has safely dropped. It also gives a visual indication of pressure inside the canner
  • Constructed of warp-resistant heavy-gauge aluminum for fast, even heating
  • Includes canning rack and complete 76-page instruction and recipe book
  • Works on regular and smooth-top ranges

Rated 5 out of 5 by from well worth the money! this canner is very safe allows you to adjust the pressure so it doesnt exceed 15lbs also locks so you cant open it until the lock goes down after 0 lbs. you dont need to move it off the heat sorce just shut the stove off. best canner ive had yet!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! Great design and timeless. Worked great and have used it a bunch of times already. I was always afraid of this type of device and only used water baths. But with the talk of food shortages, i wanted to can veggies too and you need the heat that this canner brings. note the difference between a pressure cooker and a pressure canner. they are not the same thing.

How safe is the canner? Any reported accidents?

Asked by: JKTrammell
Safety is one of Presto’s many priorities. We have gone to great lengths to ensure the safety of all of our products. The canners have several built in safety features that help protect our consumers. As always, extreme care must be taken to use the canners as heat and pressure are involved. Along with the many safety features included with the canner is a very precise and easy to read manual that gives step by step instructions on how to use the canner safely. We encourage you to read the instructions carefully before using it. We do have a customer service department that is available weekdays from 8:00-4:00 Central Time to help with any questions or concerns you may have. Please call 1-800-877-0441 and one of our reps would be more than happy to assist you.

Let me ask my question a different way......... how many quart jars will fit in this canner and how many pint jars will fit in this canner

Asked by: Dave1945
Sorry about that, Dave1945. We misread the question. This canner can fit 7 quart jars or 7 pint jars. The reason why it can still only fit 7 pint jars is that only a single layer will fit.

Is this really large enough for quart jars? Box states pint and 1/2 pint jars.

Asked by: AntyM
This will fit 7 regular and wide mouth quart jars, however, do not use the boiling water method with quart jars.

i was looking to buy a second Presto 23 Qt, but having a hard time finding availability right now. i realize this has a lower capacity. does that mean it reaches pressure and drops to zero quicker?

Asked by: AdamSong

What is the quart jar/pint jar capacity

Asked by: Dave1945
A quart jar has a 32oz capacity. A pint jar has a 16oz capacity.

can I use this product on a glass top electric stove?

Asked by: canning gramma
Current Presto® canners are acceptable for use on smooth top ranges. However, we recommend that you check with your owner's manual for your range or the manufacturer before using to assure that it is compatible. Please be mindful of the following tips for successful use of the canner on your smooth top range: *The bottom of the canner that comes into contact with the element is 8" - please check with your range owner's manual to determine which burner you should use. We recommend that you use the element that most closely matches the 8" diameter of the canner bottom (do not use a 10 or 12-inch burner). *Do not place the canner on two heated elements at the same time. *Make sure that the canner does not boil dry. *Do not use the canner on the elements for several hours at a time. *To prevent scratches to the glass top make sure that the bottom of the canner does not have scratches or areas that are rough, and do not slide or rotate the canner on the smooth top range. *Clean the cooking surface with a ceramic cook top cleaner prior to and after using the canner.

What are the advantages of using a pressure canner over a conventional canner?

Asked by: Jiggsy girl
Conventional canners are ok to preserve fruits, jams, jellies, pickles, and salsa. But, if you want to can low-acid foods such as vegetables, meats, or fish you need to use a pressure canner to process them safely.
