They don't make stoves like they used to. Modern stove tops are thinner and the elements sit closer to the stove top causing heat to be concentrated and trapped under your large water bath or pressure canner. This can often cause the stove surface around your element to become permanently discolored, the drip pan to become permanently damaged, your element can buckle under the weight and won't be level anymore, and I even had the element receptacle under the stove top melt and start on fire while canning on my 3 month old stove in 2020. This Canning Element Kit prevents or solves these problems. It's nothing fancy, but it is heavier duty than the elements that currently come with stoves. Most importantly, it situates the element further from the stove top letting the hot air underneath the canner dissipate before damaging your stove and heats more evenly, even with normal, everyday skillets and saucepans. The drip pan is also better able to take the heat without becoming damaged and is deeper to hold any water that boils out of the canner. It completely solved my canning problems, except for the discoloration of my stove top, which is permanent, unfortunately. (I had to buy and install a new element receptacle to replace the melted one too.). It's a shame this product is even necessary, especially when you go to the trouble to buy an "old fashioned" coil top electric stove just to be able to keep canning without the top cracking. Nevertheless, it does exactly what it's designed to do and meets a need. Just be sure to read the brands of stoves it will fit (not GE or Hotpoint) before ordering. The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is because mine broke apart after being used for 3 years full time. I expected it to last longer. Nevertheless, I am ordering a new one.

Same wattage as my standard OEM burner, same 5 coils as a standard. The only difference is that it sits a little taller. No outstanding advantages.

My electric stove runs really hot and I was having trouble canning and keeping pressure down. I was unable to fit my canner on the back large burner of my stove because I have a microwave over stove. Since I this, I now have been able pressure can perfectly on my front burner. It sets higher than my burner so it isn't sitting down so far. I love it. I am so happy with it I am able pressure can now with no problems with excessive heat. It holds the weight of my canner perfectly. Thanks so much
