Anthony Waterer Spirea is a low maintenance shrub that forms a tidy mounded shape, growing about 2' to 3' tall and 3' to 4' wide making it an ideal choice for borders, foundation plantings, hedges, and mass plantings. In late spring and early summer it produces bright rose pink flower clusters that attract butterflies and other pollinators. New foliage begins with a red or bronze tint, then settles into a deep green for summer, and shifts to rich burgundy or red purple tones in fall providing long lasting seasonal interest. This shrub is easy to grow, thrives in full sun, and adapts well to many soil types as long as drainage is good. Water regularly during the first growing season to help the roots establish, then water occasionally during hot, dry periods. Prune lightly after flowering to encourage fresh growth; revitalize older shrubs by pruning back harder in late winter or early spring.
