- A: Yes, these radios are UHF which requires line of sight to the other radio user. Obstructions will limit the range, with more dense terrain causing more interference. I would say for the situation presented, you should look into our MicroMobile line of GMRS radios. They have a detached antenna and more power, two things that will aid in longest range possible.7 years agoHelpful?

it's ok

it can barely reach out a mile on a clear field and not 26 miles that it boasts. in my home, it can reach about 1/2 mile to me in a vehicle. Within that range it is clear and easy to understand what the other person is saying.

We live on a large lake and are surrounded by prairie. The range is approximately one to 1.5 miles, which is perfectly adequate for us, and our micromobile base station. Having 3 units is the perfect combination for us.
