Merial Equine Potomavac Vaccine is indicated for the prevention of Potomac horse fever, a disease that can cause diarrhea, enteritis, and other related symptoms in horses.. The vaccine is 86% effective at preventing Potomac horse fever and 100% effective at preventing mortality. It's safe to be given to horses as young as 3 months old and is sold in 1-dose vials. Annual revaccination is recommended.How it Works

Equine Potomavac® is a vaccine consisting of inactivated Ehrlichia risticii in the form of a liquid suspension. When a healthy horse is vaccinated with Equine Potomavac®, an immune response is triggered. This response protects the horse against equine monocytic ehrlichiosis (Potomac Horse Fever) resulting from Ehrlichia risticii infection.

Special Precautions

• Field evaluations and controlled challenge testing have shown efficacy and safety for this vaccine.
• Wanted results may not be obtained in animals with compromised immune response caused by disease, stress, or other conditions.
• Following initial and booster vaccine, revaccination should take place annually.
• Discuss your horse's vaccination routine with your veterinarian.

Overdose Information

Immediately contact your closest emergency animal hospital or vet.

Side Effects

Rarely, vaccines can have the following adverse reactions:

• Hypersensitivity reactions
• Inflammatory reactions
• Fever
• Lethargy

These reactions can typically be treated using epinephrine, anti-inflammatory medications, and/or antihistamines.

Shake well before opening. Once opened, use entire contents. Don't freeze. Store at 35-45°F (2-7°C).

Potomac Horse Fever is a common disease in horses. The gastrointestinal effects of PHF are the most notable, including diarrhea or enteritis. Neorickettsia risticii and Ehrlichia risticii cause PHF. These are organisms that take residence in many of the cells in a horse's body. Potomac Horse Fever is also known as equine ehrlichial colitis or equine monocytic ehrlichiosis.
