Prestige 4 Horse Vaccine, 1 Dose

A: I am not a veterinarian, so this is just a layperson’s opinion.  But as mosquitos are the vector for EEE and WEE, and equine flu is spread from horse to horse, spring seems to be the logical answer so the horse has strong immunity before the mosquito and horse show season start.

A: I have included the upper portion of the Prestige 4 label for accurate reference. The label indicates the following with some explanation: 1. Primary vaccination should be performed with a booster vaccination 3-4 weeks after initial vaccination to healthy horses 6 months of age or older. 2. Annual revaccination is indicated as displayed on the label. 3. Duration of immunity for equine influenza virus has been shown to be 6 months, at which time a booster should be given to continue this protection. 4. Frequency of vaccination for EEE, WEE and WNV is dependent upon your geographic location and your local veterinarian’s recommendations. 5. Always utilized your local veterinarian for locally appropriate guidance in vaccination decisions.

A: The label advises to administer intramuscularly.

A: Please see the manufacturer's response below: Prestige 4 and a West Nile Virus (WNV) vaccine can be administered on the same day. We recommend administering each vaccine on opposite sides of the neck in slightly different regions. If the owner is at all hesitant about administering them both on the same day, they should wait at least one week before administering the second vaccine.

A: Yes, Prestige 4 does contain tetanus toxoid. This product is for protection against Eastern and Western encephalomyelitis (EEE and WEE) viruses, equine influenza virus (EIV) and tetanus.
