- A: There are three options: Recycle the extinguisher if canister is empty. If an extinguisher is empty, you can simply throw them out with your recycling trash since they no longer contain hazardous materials. You may want to still check with your local recycling company about the best way to recycle the canister. Call fire department if fully/partially charged. Some local fire departments accept portable fire extinguisher drop-offs. Call ahead of time before dropping off charged extinguishers. Take extinguisher to hazardous waste disposal facility. If your local fire department is not accepting drop-offs, you can take the extinguisher to a hazardous waste disposal facility. Most cities and counties have their own local center for hazardous waste disposal. Look up centers in your area and schedule a drop off. Ask about hazard types and any restrictions before you go.2 years agoHelpful?

I bought this high-quality fire extinguisher for my 1984 Jeep CJ-7. Unlike other reviewers, I had no issues fastening the strap. I would buy this model again.

Put out a grill fire from a cracked propane line!

I bought this extinguisher a few years ago, never mounted it, just threw it under the kitchen sink for easy access. This spring we switched out the propane tank on our grill. I'm well versed in doing this, but I should've done a leak check before using it. Little did I know the supply line cracked during the exchange. I open the tank and burners and pressed ignite. I immediately knew something was wrong, no flame under the grill grates. Then I hear this ominous hissing sound and the crackle of fire. I open the door underneath and saw flame shooting out of the tank. Within seconds the grill was fully engulfed, I screamed to my husband to grab the extinguisher. Even under the most stressful circumstances the extinguisher was so easy to use and put out the fire within a few seconds, so we could shut the tank off. I was terrified the full tank would explode or the fire would easily spread to the deck and the house. I am so grateful for this extinguisher and went to the store the next day to get a new one! I couldn't be more thankful for this product.
