KBS Coatings Frame Coater Kit, Cat Yellow

The KBS Frame Coater Kit in Cat Yellow is the complete 3 step system for stopping rust on a truck or trailer frame, a tractor frame, or any metal surface up to about 50 sq ft. It includes a quart each of KBS Klean, RustBlast, and RustSeal in Cat Yellow, plus nitrile gloves, brushes, a stir stick, and a detailed step by step guide, enough to clean, prep, and apply two full coats across a full size frame. KBS Klean cuts grease, oil, and road film. RustBlast removes rust and etches the metal, leaving a zinc phosphate film that helps RustSeal bond. RustSeal is a single component moisture cured urethane that goes over tightly rusted, sandblasted, or scuffed steel and cures to a rock hard yet flexible film that resists chips, road salt, fertilizer, and most chemicals. One note on sunlight. RustSeal is not UV stable, so the color and sheen will chalk and fade in direct sun even though the rust protection holds. Topcoat sun exposed parts with KBS BlackTop or KBS Top Coater, or choose the All-In-One Kit, which adds BlackTop. Made in the USA.Surface prep is what makes RustSeal work. Knock off loose rust and flaking paint with 320 grit sandpaper, a wire brush, or a wire wheel. Clean with KBS Klean and rinse, and avoid solvent based cleaners that leave a residue. Treat rusted metal with RustBlast to etch the surface and convert remaining rust, then rinse and dry completely. A freshly sandblasted surface needs only the dust blown off. Apply between 55 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit in moderate to dry conditions, and never in rain or on a damp surface. Do not shake the can. Stir thoroughly, pour a working amount into a separate container, and reseal the can. Apply at least 2 thin coats at about 2 mils each. Recoat once the last coat leaves no fingerprint, typically 2 to 6 hours. Past 8 hours, wait 24 hours and scuff with 320 grit. Thin only with KBS number 1 Thinner or xylene. Cure 24 hours before topcoating.
