Great beehive base

Good quality hive stand/base. Screened for aid in pest management of varroa and hive beetle/ ventilation for warm seasons. Remove the thin plywood bottom for warmer months/climates, then replace to help with insulation of the hive in winter (or placement of an oil pan or tacky sheet for pest management.) Note that it comes out of box as raw wood - Instructions recommend priming and/or painting for longer lasting product. This is for a 10 frame hive, not an 8 frame!

Cheaply made!

I am very disappointed in the quality of the bottom boards. They are chincy lightweight junk. Stapled instead of screwed, small landing, thin wood. The cleats are too short. You can't even use a standard entrance reducer! The cleats need to be twice as tall as they are so that you can use a reducer. I've had to modify the landing, modify the cleats, and add screws just to stiffen up the board. In my opinion this is cheap junk!

Terrible quality and build dimensions

I was very disappointed that a standard entrance reducer would not fit in this screened bottom board. This should be a no brainer during construction. I’ll have to rehab it to make it work. I’ll add that the inner cover I purchased was made with the cheapest materials they could find. One star is given as that is as low as you can go and one star could be for it’s availability in emergency purposes when the bees surprise you and more equipment is needed.

No, I do not recommend this product.

BEWARE- bees can crawl through screen.

The wire mesh is too big and my bees crawl through it onto the bottom board which means they can be reinfested with mites that fall thrugh the screen. It also means I cant use a sticky mite count paper, because the bees get stuck. Also, the wooden board leaves an opening in the back that the bees can crawl out of- or predators can enter into the hive. Finally, the wire mesh has a shrp cut edge in front that I needed to cover with a vinyl strip to protect the bees from being injured. I dont think Im being unreasonable, but i bought this because I am a new beekeeper and assumed that it would be at least a servicable, if not durable product. And it wasnt cheap! Buyer beware.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not sealed right.

Bees are for some reason fling in the back where you pull the plywood out to clean. They leave space for them to fly in even though there's no where to go I think they're trying to seal it off I don't want to block it as at any given time there are probably 10 bees in it.

No, I do not recommend this product.
