Q: Can this be used without the posts, and used with chain link insulators to go around a backyard? If so, how? Mine is not working.

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Neighbor! Yes, this kit is adaptable and can be used without the included posts by mounting it to existing structures. For example, it can be installed on top of a corral fence or around existing wire fences using insulators, such as PVC pipe, to prevent the electric wire from contacting the metal.

Q: How does somebody get in and out of the fenced in area?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Michaela! The best way to enter/exit the fenced in area will be by installing a gate. Choosing higher conductive under gate cable will ensure maximum power transfer between the two fence sections. Look for the lowest resistance rating per mile. Soft cable is easier to strip while hard cable offers the best protection in the ground (note Gallagher recommends cable be installed through pipe for ultimate protection, especially in rocky ground).

Q: Does this work using batteries if the solar isn't charged or solar stops working?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Lisa! No, the S6 Energizer included in this kit is completely solar-powered and does not require batteries to be changed. While some older versions or manuals may have mentioned D-cell batteries, this specific model is designed to operate without them, eliminating the need for electric outlets or extension cords.

Item Never Shipped

Order this electric fence kit for my chickens so I could let them range away from the coop. Unfortunately after 2 weeks of waiting and reaching out to customer service with no resolution, the fence has still yet to ship. Really sad since I thought this was through TSC, but it’s not. Now I have to wait for this nonresponsive seller to refund $200. This was hands down the single worst experience I have ever had making a purchase.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Seems to work for woodchucks and rabbits

I installed my fence about 1 month ago, and so far it it working as intended. Woodchucks and rabbits have terrorized me and my garden for years. Over the years, I've tried repellents of all sorts, sonic spikes, extra (wire) fencing, you name it. I already had 2 layers of fencing, a regular wire fence, as well as a shorter "rabbit" fence with smaller holes. However, the baby rabbits and woodchucks were able to shimmy through the smaller holes of the rabbit fence, and by the end of the summer, the adult woodchucks had figured out how to climb over the rabbit fence on the one side that didn't have the taller fence. Even when they weren't able to get inside the garden easily, they pulled a lot of plants off or through the fence. I installed this electric fence around the existing fences, so I had to come up with insulators at the corners where the electric fence would come in contact with the wire fence. I cut pieces of PVC pipe and used zip ties to secure them. See pictures. I also had an issue with getting the spool through the existing fence during installation, to keep the electric fence as one continuous piece of wire. That was pretty challenging, but I finally managed by making bundles of wire I could fit through the fence. Otherwise, installation was pretty easy. I do have to regularly trim the grass under the fence to keep it from touching, as I think this could diminish the charge. And I have to make sure my garden plants aren't in contact with the fence. But overall I'm pleased it seems to be working, though now the woodchucks are hitting my flowers outside of the garden really hard! We haven't seen any baby rabbits or woodchucks this year, so it's possible they could get through, but the height of the wires is adjustable, so think moving them closer to the ground would do the trick. Note: When reading information online before ordering, there was conflicting information on whether the fence would be completely solar-powered. I think there must have been an older version that ran on batteries. The manual included even mentioned needing D batteries. I was happy to find out that it is, in fact, completely solar-powered.

Yes, I recommend this product.
