Q: The picture shows mounting on a wood fence. Can this be mounted on a chain link fence?

1 Answer
  • A: The rain gauge should be mounted in an open, unobstructed spot, avoid trees, house eaves, or anything that could interfere with direct rainfall. Make sure funnel is higher than any object you're mounting it on. Mount as straight as possible. Please ready the orange float in the middle so you get the most accurate reading.

1 Answer
  • A: The gauge tube slides out of a cradle, and can then be emptied by turning it upside down and pouring out the water.

Q: why is the spacing for 1 inch so much longer than the distance between say 1 and 2 inches? the circumference seems the same thru out the cylinder

1 Answer
  • A: The manufacturer advised the following: "That is because the funnel is scientifically calibrated for the spacing on the tube. The funnel will allow the rain fall to equal one inch and can't be measure by a ruler."

Q: Shouldnt an inch be an inch? Just curious as to why the markings are so far apart?

1 Answer
  • A: Each section of the tube is equivalent to one inch of rainfall. Measures up to 5" of rain. 26 1/2" tall and tube is 1 3/4" diameter.

Q: How do you read the rain water level ? Is it at the top of the red disk, the middle of the disk, or at the bottom of the disk? The difference in rain water is a quarter of an inch depending if you read it at the top, or at the bottom of the red disk.

EZ Read rain gauge lives up to it's name!

Mounted the gauge on side of a fence post, about 40 feet from house. These gauges are very easy to read from inside the house. Purchased 2 more to give as gifts to friends. They are easy to drain, leaves don't get into them. Will purchase more for next Christmas gifts.

Best available but bring back old style numbers

Have owned one of these for ten plus years. Love it. Wanted several for relatives but manufacturer changed from big yellow block numbers to these fancy script numbers which are much less legible. All in all good rain gague. The red float fades but a coat of red paint once every five years fixes that. Not freezeproof, but that should be obvious. Bugs and small leaves occasionally get into tube but they are easily washed out. Still better than any other inexpensive rain gague that I know of.

Worth 98 cents

This is so thin and flimsy. Every part. A stake you could barely push in a few inches, all allowed, that's not stiff enough for the tube. The wind blows it over and if you secure it to something, to dump it you have to take it off. Such thin brittle plastic. Won't last in the sun.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Very cheaply made

Yes its easy to read but very poorly made. It is too top heavy, esp when it contains any amount of rain water. Ground plastic stake is not long enough nor sturdy

No, I do not recommend this product.
