Q&As

1 - 5 of 5 Questions

Q: rain gauge does not record the rain amount . What is the ABC switch used for.

2 Answers
  • A: We apologize for the trouble you are seeing with the unit. The ABC Channel switch allows the display and outdoor sensor/ rain gauge to connect. You are also able to use multiple display and outdoor sensor/ rain gauge units in one location by setting each set to a different ABC Channel. The ABC Channel switch also can help if the units are experiencing interference which may be causing the units to not connect properly on the selected channel. For the issue you are seeing we would recommend trying the following hard reset between the display and the outdoor sensors/rain gauge as all three units need to be on the same ABC Channel in order to connect: Bring the sensor, rain gauge and display unit together and remove batteries from the outdoor sensor and rain gauge. Remove the batteries from the display unit. Allow all three units a full 3 minutes to fully power down. Change the A-B-C switch on all three units to a new, matching ABC channel. Reinstall the batteries in the outdoor sensor and the rain gauge. Once the batteries are inserted you should see the red LED light blink approx. every 16 seconds on the front of the sensor. Reinstall batteries into the display unit. Let the units sit within a couple of feet of each other for approximately 5 minutes or until you see a solid sensor signal on the indoor display. If the units do reconnect in that time frame please allow them to sit side by side, untouched, for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes please confirm if the indoor and outdoor temperature readings are the same or within the unit's accuracy standards of +/-2 degrees per unit (sensor and display)

Q: Does this require internet

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, This unit does not require internet to function on its own. You will be able to see data from the two outdoor sensors on the indoor display unit without an internet connection. The sensors are compatible with the AcuRite Access device so that you can stream the data online to the My AcuRite website and app if you choose. For further questions, please contact our support team via live chat or email request on the AcuRite website. Have a marvelous day! Haylee AcuRite Support Team

This was my third set of this item. That speaks for itself. The last one before the current one was knocked out by hail.

Electronics aren't weather proof.

I have 2 of these gauges and both of them work only intermittently after about a year. I have to remove the electronics, blow warm air over it. It will revive and transmit for another month or so.

No, I do not recommend this product.

We apologize that your units are experiencing an issue, but we are happy to assist! Please ensure to bring this unit indoors for the winter once temperatures reach freezing to prevent damage to the unit. We recommend performing a hard reset with fresh batteries for each unit. Please follow the steps carefully as the order is crucial to the success of the reset. Hard Reset: 1. Bring both the sensor and display unit together and remove batteries from the outdoor sensor. Make sure that the Wireless Reception Indicator on the display drops to zero bars to ensure that your display was connected to the correct sensor. (If your wireless reception indicator already indicates zero bars, please proceed to Step #2.) NOTE: If your display unit continues to show a strong connection, there is another sensor in your area that your display is connecting to (either a neighbor's or from another of your AcuRite units). If you have multiple sensors, make sure to use a different ABC channel on each. 2. Remove the batteries and/or power adapter from the display unit. 3. Change the A-B-C setting on both units to a new, matching channel then press and hold the reset button in the battery compartment of the display for 20 seconds, if applicable. 4. Reinstall the batteries in the outdoor sensor. 5. Reinstall batteries and/or power cord into the display unit then immediately press and hold the reset button again for 20 seconds, if applicable. 6. Let the units sit within a couple of feet of each other for approximately 5 minutes or until you see a solid sensor signal. If the issue persists, please reach out to our support team via live chat or email request.

I wouldn't be without one

I am a PhD meteorologist, with a specialty in precipitation development (snow, primarily, and hail). Being able to remotely measure precipitation rate and amount is very important to me. That is why I have the Acurate precipitation gauges (I have had four of them, currently I have two). I wouldn't be without them. They are accurate, and provide the remote measurement I like. The ones I have had work nicely, but at times I've had to reset them, and I'm not sure why this happens. Also, with snow, they do not provide a direct measurements of precipitation amount. One thought would be to provide an internal heater, which could be triggered remotely for a fixed time period, perhaps 10 minutes.

Yes, I recommend this product.
