This 1500-watt 15-amp motor and 5 ton rated hydraulic system will easily split logs up to a 10 in. diameter and 20 in. length. Precision pump gears and copper motor windings ensure a constant splitting force and sustained power. The lightweight design of the Earthquake 32228 makes it easily transportable from site to site. The log splitter's sturdy transport wheels allow for smooth maneuvering, while the rubber coated legs double as transport handles allowing you to roll the unit without strain or difficulty. Its a powerful little machine. It struggles a bit with 12 inch wide newer material. Where it out-performs a splitter sledge hammer is in odd shaped or sizes. If the anvil pitch was 2⁰ -6⁰ narrower and had a gradual flare at the base, the lack of power over 5tons could possible be achieved without increasing the power

New unit missing parts!

I purchased the unit in 2018. It performed admirably until this winter, when it's motor began running slower and slower with each attempt to split softwood. It finally began producing a loud buzzing sound as it dimmed the lights in my garage. Then it blew it's fuse with a popping noise. I disassembled it according to instructions on forestmaster, and found that two locating dowels were missing from the oil pump assembly! And yet, the holes that housed them were present! This was my first time through the oil pump assembly, and the machine was purchased new, so it seems impossible that this was my error in reassembly! Is this planned obsolescence?

5-ton Electric Log Splitter

After determining the splitter was shipped with hydraulic oil, we put it to work. Our need was to reduce the size of already split wood so we would have kindling for easier fire starting. It worked about 70% of the time but we found that pushing the wood toward the splitting wedge frequently resulted in the wood flying away several feet. The traditional design of larger splitters (pushing the wedge into the wood) is much safer. Tractor Supply handled the return with no hesitation and our purchase was credited immediately.

No, I do not recommend this product.

So I recently bought this looking to split a couple of trees I dropped and cut up. It ran great for a homeowner. I put it on a small table, so i wasnt bending over all day, and it split like a champ. Made splitting enjoyable.

We love this splitter, should have bought it ten years ago. We have been using a manual hydraulic splitter. This makes splitting logs so much easier. Has anyone had a problem with hydraulic oil leaking when storing the splitter upright? One the reasons we purchased this was because it does not take up much space.
