Following a 7 to 10 day acclimation period, average consumption should be 1 to 2 pounds for mature cattle and horses and 1 to 5 ounces for sheep and goats with unrestricted forage supplies. Position the blocks 50 to 75 feet from loafing, feeding and watering areas. Some repositioning of blocks may be necessary as animals become acclimated to the presence of the blocks. Move blocks closer to increase consumption; further away to decrease consumption. If over consumption occurs for more than two weeks and repositioning of blocks does not correct the situation, remove blocks and evaluate the overall feeding program. DO NOT ALLOW STARVED ANIMALS FREE ACCESS TO THIS BLOCK. . Feed at a rate of one block per 10 to 30 head. All animals should have equal access to blocks. Timid and smaller animals need their share. 2. Place blocks where animals congregate. Locate blocks throughout the pasture at loafing, grazing and watering areas. Adequate distance must be maintained between blocks to prevent crowding - 10 feet minimum. 3. Feed blocks continuously along with plentiful sources of forage and clean, fresh water. Animals should not run out of blocks. When a block is two-thirds consumed, provide a new block near it. 4. Cattle and horses should consume 1 to 2 pounds per head daily based on a 1,000-pound animal. Sheep and goats should consume 1 to 5 ounces per head daily based on a 150-pound animal. 5. Consumption of this block may vary depending upon animal body condition, quality and quantity of forages, seasonal weather conditions, and most importantly, feeding locations of blocks with respect to loafing, grazing, feeding and watering areas. 6. If additional vitamin and mineral fortification is desired, provide an appropriate free choice mineral supplement in addition to this supplement.

NOT for Dairy Cows

I drove an hour to purchase these for our Jersey cow because online it says it's for beef and dairy cattle. The label on the product clearly says not to use it for "Animals producing milk for human consumption". The salesperson at TS told me that they still recommend it for dairy cows anyway. It also says on the label for "Non Lactating Dairy Cattle."

I have been purchasing these tubs from Tractor Supply for quite awhile. Since it’s not easy to find tubs that are sheep-specific, the general purpose one is nice to have. I normally keep this in the lot along with a sheep and goat block. The lambs and sheep enjoy visiting the tub, and it lasts well. Naturally, they consume more during the winter when there is no pasture. But they do enjoy having it all year long.

So far not impressed, cattle wouldn’t touch it. It was so hard they walked away. I’ve added water to hopefully soften it up some. We’ll see if that helps. Probably the last time I buy one of these.

The local farmer had big tubs of these, so I decided to get the smaller version for my sheep and cows. They have to work at getting the protein, so it lasts a long time, and seems to be unaffected by rain. The empty tub will be useful too.

A great supplement at a reasonable price! I like that my sheep and Highlanders can be mixed in one pen and it's safe for both. Plus, if if the horses end up in there briefly it isn't going to kill them.

Protein tubs help with lambing.

These tubs work well for me when I need to get my sheep a bit of extra protein and sugar. I use them in the summer when sheep are on dry feed or in the lead up to lambing. What I have noticed is that my wool ewes eat them voraciously, while my dorpers just nibble at them but as they get closer to lambing consumption goes up. Also, when I feed grain I think I am getting more stuck lambs - I probably won't test this theory further because I like the convenience of the tubs (ie not having to feed daily) and my lambs look good.

Nasty, hard, and stinky.

I have always been confident in DuMor products but this protein tub was AWFUL. The tub was cracked on the bottom and had leaves stuck to the underside and what appeared to have mouse droppings stuck to it. The content was completely hard, dry, and smelled awful. It was so disgusting that my goats, who normally LOVE lick tubs, wouldn't touch it. Yes, I should have returned it and could have at my local TSC but I am a 5'1", 115 lb.female and the tub weighs 125 pounds which means I would have to wrangle it around AGAIN, use the tractor to reload it in the pick up, and drive back to town which is 10 miles away and it just wasn't worth it. I should have refused it at the store but after the staff went to the trouble to retrieve it from the back of their outside store room with their skid steer, I hated to do that. Plus, when I questioned the quality of the protein tub the sales staff said it looked the same as all of the others and assured me it was fine and had been stored inside.....Lesson (s)learned. Never again.

Mixed review, the good and bad

The reason I gave 3 stars is because this dumor protein tub I bought was terrible, but I have bought these tubs before and they've always been good. If I based my ratings on the new owner, Rick, I'd give 5 stars. Rick was awesome when I called to inquire about returning this Dumor 125 lb protein tub. He explained he is the new owner and when he took over he also took over old products the previous owners had available. The tub I got was terrible. I believe age would explain it. They smell funny and the appearance is like a dried lava field all cracked and miscolored. Rick said the vendor told him they are still fine, but he also admitted he doesn't personally know and can only repeat what the vendor told him. He said if he were the customer he would return it. So I am 5 star happy with the new owner, an honest and nice guy. I think Sandy Tractor Supply will be a better place with him as owner. I will still be shopping there. As for the product itself, I have used it before and been so happy with it, so I don't think the product itself is the problem. I Think the previous owner just let their products sit and get too old. I think that is when a company should run a clearance sale to move those aging products in my opinion.Thank you, Rick for your honesty and kindness. I'm glad you answered the phone

My1 2 goats won't the tub after the 1st day i put the tub in their pen. Its so hard that they can't even eat it. I tried breaking some off with a shovel. They still weren't interested.

I’ve been buying these for a couple of years and they are great! We have a large flock of sheep and a couple of goats, and it’s been very difficult to find a copper-free supplement locally as we are in an area that’s not heavy on sheep production. We supplement copper to the goats by bolus. I’ve seen several complaints about other’s livestock not being interested in consuming it. When we had our goats penned separately from the sheep, the goats showed low interest in it, but the sheep love it. As soon as we moved them to the same pasture, the goats observed the sheep licking it and then they were suddenly worried they were missing out on a treat and began consuming it with gusto. I don’t wet or hydrate it in any way, in fact I keep it under shelter to stay dry. I definitely recommend it for sheep and goats. They’ve never looked better, and we’ve had two years of big, healthy lambs. They’ve never looked have free access to high-selenium sheep mineral, cobalt blocks, and sulfur blocks in addition to the copper bolus for the goats. Good stuff!

The tub received is not what is pictured, no lid and covered only by cardboard. My mistake was not looking underneath the cardboard. The mineral components are dry and no amount of water will moisten it. The cows nor or goats are not interested. Spent more money buying another tub from a local feed store instead.

Possible mold? Zero molasses content. Very very hard, you'll need to chop off first layer with axe. Won't last but 12 hours, sheep can bite chunks it's so dry they can't lick it. Gave em runs. Don't buy till they get it figured out, would be a great product. But seems unsafe, not worth the 400 spent on em.

Easy to Handle and Cows Love It. Only problem is, TS stores ran out and didn't restock. Checked inventory on-line, showed it was in-stock, purchased it, and found it wasn't available when I showed up to the store. Had to process a "return" ticket on it.
