Produces soot, no available parts for repair

Two of these units were in the home we bought in 2020. The remote has never worked on one of them and there have been no replacement parts available. We manually lit the pilot. Recently we converted from LP and NG. The regulator now fails to work on both fireplaces, and yes the conversion was done correctly. And yes the NG pressure is at 7.0, well below the maximum 9.5 allowed by this unit. No replacement regulators can be found. Our nearby fireplace shop can't find any parts to repair these, and nothing was found that is small enough to replace these inserts. I'm not sure if I will need to completely replace with a new unit, or will it be necessary to rebuild the fireplace masonry to accept larger inserts. The previous owner used these with LP probably to heat when power was off. There was extensive soot damage that required cleaning and painting the interior.
No, I do not recommend this product.
