Runs well after adjustments

The DR Power Premier 300 Chipper Shredder I recently purchased from TSC now runs very well, but only after I adjusted the engine kill tab and the throttle limit screw. Initially, the chipper/shredder was very hard to start. And, when the engine did start, it ran very rough at higher speeds. Fortunately, I noticed that the engine kill tab was arcing to the throttle bracket. (Refer to the red arrow in the attached picture). So, I bent the tab away from the bracket… just enough to stop the arcing, but not so much that the tab no longer contacted the throttle lever in the ‘Stop’ position. After I adjusted the engine kill tab, the engine ran well, but the maximum engine speed was too slow. The engine bogged down much too easily and constantly stalled. However, after I adjusted the throttle limit screw 'out' about 3 threads (refer to the orange arrow in the attached picture), the cutting speed of the engine increased such that the chipper/shredder operated well. The chipper/shredder now operates as it should... but it would've been nice if the machine had been properly adjusted by the manufacturer. While my new DR 300 chipper/shredder now operates 'properly' and I'm satisfied with its performance, customers who are not so mechanically inclined would probably be quite dissatisfied if they encountered the same issues. Bob's bottom line: The DR 300 chipper/shredder is a good machine for residential yard maintenance (when properly adjusted and used as directed).

Broken crankshaft on 2nd day, warranty denied

So I bought this one over the cheaper yellow ones they sell because it had the Briggs & Stratton engine. It ran great until the crankshaft on the engine snapped. I took it to a service center nearby and they took pictures of it and sent them to Generac (which owns DR now), only to be told that the warranty doesn't cover that and I must have put too big a branch in it and it's my fault. This company doesn't stand behind their products and couldn't care less once they've already got your money.

Stay away

Poorly designed, awkward to move around. The mulcher clogs frequently, the hammers pulverize trimmings into dust so you don't get any mulch. Needs frequent repairs and factory support is lacking. The chipper does work nicely

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for leaving us a review. We're sorry to hear that your experience with your chipper shredder has not been satisfactory. Processing large volumes of wet and green materials that are not fully dried can cause the shredder to clog. See p.16 of the owner's manual for instructions for safely removing clogs. If you should need additional support with your product, please give us a call at 1-800-687-6575 Generac

Not worth the price

The design was very odd. When you tilt it to move, the engine is on the bottom! The baffles on the 3" feed tube don't block pieces from being thrown back out at the operator. When I fed material into the hopper, the machine pulled the stuff in so quickly that I hardly had time to let go without getting my arm yanked down towards the bottom of the hopper. Though the material was chipped pretty nicely, I returned the machine because it felt unsafe to use. Not worth almost $1000!

No, I do not recommend this product.

My DR Chipper

This is and does exactly what I wanted it to do. I had to order it, so it took a while to be delivered to the store. But it was worth the wait. The folks at Tractor Supply did a great job at setting everything up for the purchase. They even loaded it when it arrived.

It's a chipper, that's all.

If a branch/stick is straight and fits into the chipper opening, it'll get chipped, but that's about all that works on this thing. Shredder is useless. I tried anything from a thin branch full of leaves (will rip out of your and take some time to shred then clog) or a hand full of leaves or hay (will clog in the chute and never make it to the blades). I spent more time in disassembly and unclogging then usage. It has a big top hopper that drops into a what, 2"x4" opening? No shutoff, you have to either turn off the fuel valve or pull the spark plug wire. If you're going to cut holes in the metal and call it a handle, add some rolled metal or cushion, this thing is hard to move around.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're truly sorry to hear about your negative experience, and would like to help make it right. When using the chipper, ensure you are feeding material into the chute slowly, that your branches are free of twigs, and are 1.5"-3" inches in diameter. If you are experiencing clogs in either the chipper or shredder, it helps to alternate between dry and wet/green material. Another trick to remove clogs is to chip a 1" branch to loosen any stuck material. More information on recommended processing of materials can be found on page 14 of the owner's manual: https://dam.generac.com/ImConvServlet/imconv/cec75f8a4bc86abc073ef9fe8b8db136e638a717/original
To power down the engine, simply turn the throttle control lever all the way past the "SLOW" position to the "STOP" position, then close the fuel valve for storage. If you should have any additional questions related to the operation of your chipper/shredder, please call DR's technical support line at 1-800-687-6575. Generac
