Disappointing Out-of-Box Defects & Unusable Guaran

I purchased this saw hoping to rely on DeWalt’s reputation for jobsite accuracy, but my unit arrived with a compounding series of severe factory alignment defects that make safe, precise work impossible. While checking the initial setup, I discovered the following critical quality control issues: Uncorrectable Fence Runout: The fence is significantly out of perpendicular to the table. The assembly screws on the back of the fence were improperly set from the factory, making standard shim or washer adjustments physically impossible. Defective Scale: The ruler rail is so far out of alignment that even at maximum adjustment, it remains off by nearly a quarter of an inch. Unstable Fence Castings: Despite the blade being aligned to the miter slots, test cuts do not run straight due to severe lateral flex ("spring action") in the aluminum fence itself, suggesting a structural weakness or missing internal reinforcement. As a working user, my tools are my livelihood. When I tried to address these immediate out-of-box defects under the advertised 90-Day Satisfaction Guarantee (at just 40 days post-purchase), I was told it would not be honored. Instead, I was instructed to drive over two hours to a service center, pay for my own transit, and surrender my primary saw for several weeks just to have factory defects evaluated. I understand that an occasional "lemon" slips through quality control, but expecting a customer to absorb the business downtime and travel costs to fix unadjustable factory errors is unacceptable. I want to love this machine, but I need DeWalt to stand behind their warranty/guarantee and help me resolve this without costing me my livelihood in the process.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great job-site saw

Bought it several years ago. It's a great portable saw. Used it to make many different cuts. Put dado blades in to make perfect box joints. Son-in-law is using it now while constructing our new home.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Love this saw and stand combo

The stand and table saw is a great combination. I bought this a few years back and have used it over the years for simple DIY projects. Very easy to move around, has plenty of power to cut all types of wood, you can swap out blades easily and the extra storage on the saw for accessories is great. Definitely recommend this to any professional or weekend warrior.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Fantastic tool after some modifications.

Other than the modifications I have made to this saw and stand, it’s a tremendous tool! I needed a portable table saw that would be quick to set up and collapse. I wanted a quality saw with accuracy. The saw I had was a cast iron Delta that weighed about as much as a’65 Buick. It was time for an upgrade. So, I started looking at the major retailers. After reading countless reviews on several saws, I chose the Dewalt DWE7491. Since I’ve had the saw, I have modified a few things. First, the storage slot for the sliding miter gauge was completely counterintuitive. I didn’t like having to walk around to the output side of the saw every single time I needed to use it. Moving it to the input side also required rerouting the wiring to the switch. I completed all of that in about an hour. How did the designers not see this? The next thing, which was not necessarily a design flaw, but more accommodating to reducing the overall footprint of the saw, was the lift bar for raising the stand onto its legs. I believe Dewalt calls it the “kickstand”. It was originally mounted horizontally under the base of the stand. I removed it, cut the U shaped tubing to fit and mounted it vertically to the gusset face plate. I reattached the cut ends to the underside of the stand as the skid tubes they were initially intended for. Why? Because it trimmed off about 6 inches from the overall footprint. I built a cover box for storing the saw outside. Trimming off 6 inches in turn also reduced the overall size of my plywood box. The last modification was adding roller set screws to the miter gauge. The slide and the slot have a bit of play as it is metal against metal. Without the roller set screws, there has to be some amount of forgiveness between the two. Drilling and tapping the slide bar and installing the rollers nearly eliminated the need for the excess tolerance. The above modifications came about by actually using the tool in a work setting, as well as by necessity. My last comment is regarding the assembly instruction booklet for the stand. I’ll just say that a second grader could have done better!
