Grow your own fresh plums with 'Blue Damson' plum trees! These dark purple-black plums have a sweet tart flavor, delicious for jams and jellies. They have a higher sugar content that also makes it possible to sun-dry the fruit. These plum trees grow best in a fertile, well-drained soil and typically grow 15 to 20 feet tall with a somewhat wider spread. 'Blue Damson' plum trees are self-fruitful but will produce more fruit when planted with another. Guaranteed to Grow: Product must be purchased before June 1st. Sales receipt and UPC required. Q&As

Q: How long does the plum take to leaf? I bought 2 peach, 2 apple, and 2 plums. The apples and peaches are growing leaves but the plum looks the same as the day I planted it 2 months ago.

A: Dear Erin12345, Thank you for your question. Your plum tree should be showing signs of growth. If you gently scratch the base of the plant, there should be a bit of green underneath to show the plant is still viable. If not, please contact us at (269) 468-6714 or sales@degroot-inc.com so we may assist you. Thank you, DeGroot Inc.

Q: WILL THIS DEGROOT BRAND TREE GROW IF ROOTS ARE BADLY CUT AND PACKED IN DRY BARK ?

1 Answer
  • DeGroot
A: Thank you for your question. Our product is dormant, packaged bare root plants intended to be without foliage (leaves) while in the store. This means the plant may have had the roots trimmed prior to packaging. The roots should be pliable but firm and moist at the time of purchase. If they are not, we encourage you to contact us at (269) 468-6714 or sales@degroot-inc.com so we may assist you further. Thank you again for your inquiry. Thank you, DeGroot Inc.

Q: How do i care for this product at home before planting outdoors in 3 months from now?

  • DeGroot
A: Thank you for your interest in our Blue Damson plum tree. This product is dormant, packaged bare root plants intended to be without foliage (leaves) while in the store. Dormant plants such as these offer the opportunity to jumpstart spring planting because they can be planted in the ground earlier than potted plants. We recommend this plum tree may be planted now or as soon as the ground is workable. It may be stored in a cool dark place until the soil is workable in your area. We encourage you to contact us at (269) 468-6714 or sales@degroot-inc.com if you have additional questions. Thank you again for your inquiry. Thank you, DeGroot Inc.

Q: Do you recommend any kind of 'soil enrichment' or soil pH testing prior to planting? Also, do you recommend any type of initial or annual fertilizer?

  • DeGroot
A: Thank you for your question. A soil test can be helpful to see if there are any actual nutrient deficiencies. If there is no shortage of micronutrients, you can use a phosphate fertilizer in the planting hole. Later in the year (Late August or September) you can use a Nitrogen based fertilizer. Feeding in the late winter/spring, while counterintuitive, is not as effective as feeding in early fall. If you have additional questions, we encourage you to contact us at (269) 468-6714 or sales@degroot-inc.com so we may assist you. Thank you, DeGroot Inc.

Selling dead tree?

It was dead. Bought on March 15th, soaked root in water over night and planted. Watered dead tree for 3 months. Lakewood NY TSC was nice that they refunded me. I’ve also bought same tree from Warren PA TSC and they refused to refund me. Called customer service and they gave me points to compensate purchase price.

Plants look Dead

The two Degroot small trees showed up looking dry and brittle and no sign of life. If these were Not in cold storage until today, I was shipped dead trees with a no return policy. Now I know why they were on sale. Fool me once….

No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought 3 of them 2 months ago just in case one will not grow- but all three of those plum trees were dead! I did follow the instructions and still water them regularly but no sign of life- very disappointed!
