Cyproheptadine HCL Tablet is a prescription antihistamine medicine used for horses, cats and dogs. It's commonly used to treat asthma and allergies, but can also be used for other conditions, such as Cushing's disease and headshaking in horses. Pets who struggle with lack of appetite or serotonin syndrome may also benefit from taking Cyproheptadine HCl. Sold individually per tablet. How it Works
Cyproheptadine HCI will generally start working in a matter of hours as a treatment for serotonin syndrome, antihistamine, and appetite stimulant. Several days of treatment could be required in order to achieve the full effect. When treating horses, it could take weeks to months to see an effect.
Special Precautions
If your pet experiences any of the following symptoms, notify your veterinarian.
- Fever
- Inability to urinate
- Increased heart rate
- Coma
- Lethargy
- Seizures
- Excitement
Immediately contact your closest emergency animal hospital or vet.
Side Effects
A common reaction is drowsiness. Periodically, a cat may have a "paradoxical" reaction, which causes excitement. Like other antihistamines, anticholinergic effects occur at overdose or higher doses. These effects include:
- Elevated body temperature
- Increased heart rate
- Dry mouth
- Increased eye pressure in patients who are predisposed to glaucoma
- Urine retention
Store at room temperature.
