Q: I live in Syracuse NY and it can get into single digit or below 0 with alot of snow. Is the Hador 8 inch logger boot sutible for this type of weather. I have read that they are not waterproof. Would another model be more suitable.

1 Answer
  • A: Hello Bob G, The 400g Thinsulate lining in these boots is only rated down to 15-30 degrees, but some people report that they are still plenty warm if you're moving around and your body is actively producing heat. Because they're not waterproof, we would not recommend them for the wet, frigid climate you are located in. We would recommend a waterproof boot with at least a 600g Thinsulate (or comparable) lining, similar to sku 1585367, 1085857, or 1076220.

Lazy store employee and the laces came apart!

My wife purchased these boots for me as a surprise. She found them on sale and went to our local store to pick them up. Sadly, they were too small and she went back to the store to get the wide version. We all know they make a wide version. When she returned the original boots, she asked the young lady if she could order the wide and exchange them and she said “we don’t carry any wide boots”. When my wife asked her to ORDER the wide boots, she said “they don’t make a wide version”. Instead of walking over to the other computer to help us out like she was supposed to, she lied and my wife believed her. When I got home from work, she told me what had happened and I assured her the young lady at the store was just being lazy. My wife went to TCS’s website and ordered the wide version herself. Because the young lady at the store wouldn’t help us out, we ended up having to pay full price for the same boot. It was quite the price difference! I’ve got to say that I have grown quite accustomed to EXCELLENT customer service at TCS. This visit was most definitely not that. I was only a little upset when she wouldn’t help us out, but I was very upset when her unwillingness to help cost me financially. As far as the boots themselves go, they fit nicely and seem to be holding up well with one exception. When I got home from wearing them the very first day, the brand new laces had started coming apart. The laces seem to be made in two layers; a white inner core wrapped in a brown outer coating. In two places on each of the laces, the inner core is now poking through making it nearly impossible to tie them! My pant leg covers the laces all day and I work on a concrete floor. There’s no chance that something could have snagged them or damaged them in any way. It’s just a lousy design. I’ve been a Redwing man for over 20 years and my regular boots are on backorder. I thought Chippewa was a comparable brand, but I’m really surprised at the low quality.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great Boot

Comfortable from moment putting them on. No "wear in" period. The sole is very "grippy", which is nice when trying to mow long slippery grass on the side of a hill. The leather is medium-hard, and they are a bit heavy, but that was expected.

Yes, I recommend this product.
