Not what is advertised

Before I purchased I asked the question if it was heavy enough to sew boat canvas (See Shadow question”. The response was “yes it is”. I purchased the machine. It arrived and I began to sew my curtains. The heavy duty needle bent right away. I had some heavier ones. It was a struggle to sew the curtains. The machine “is not” heavy enough for that kinda of project. From what I saw I don’t believe it would do well with denim. Not satisfied at all. I would return and get a heavier machine but I’m sure it’s too late.

No, I do not recommend this product.

So far so good, mostly

The machine serves my needs which are very basic. The needle threader doesn't work as it's slightly off, but I don't have to use it so it's ok. Is there an easy way to remove the threader device? The screw holding it onto the needle bar is so tight I'm afraid I'll break something trying to get it off. The threader is kind of in the way and I'd prefer it to be uncluttered around the needle. Otherwise, so far so good.

A Real Workhorse!

Amazing machine. I have both this machine and the Singer Heavy Duty 4452. I like them both but the Brother definitely has the edge. I believe the motor is more powerful, and it just sews more smoothly overall. I've repaired jeans, made a quilt, and most recently some potholders on this and it can handle whatever you throw at it

The good and bad

The machine gets 5 stars. The operator gets 0 stars. It took me literally an hour and a half to thread and bobbin the machine. It’s not your fault Brother, I’m used to my Mom’s old fashioned Singer (the 25th Anniversary version). The instructions are good, but I had trouble. Here are my immediate newcomer thoughts. I really don’t like where the foot lifter is. It needs to be in the back where the left hand can reach it and… not plastic. The light bulb is very weak, it doesn’t light up the whole workspace. Oh, and 86 the automatic threader… it either doesn’t work or bad directions.
