Briggs & Stratton Fuel Tank Cap, 5436K is rated 1.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from I don't like this gas cap My 725ex uses this gas cap. It does not protect the opening of the gas tank like a screw-on cap in that when one opens the tank to fill grass clippings accumulated around the perimeter are in a prime position to fall into the tank. I'd love to retrofit my engine with a conventional gas cap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't fit Says its for a 725ex...definitely not. Too small...and there isn't a larger one.

I have a M22500 Murray mower with a Briggs engine with this cap and it leaks profusely after 1 year of service - why?

Asked by: smelllikegas
Leaking from the cap can occur if the engine is overfilled with fuel or tilted in the wrong direction. These caps are vented and will leak if tilted the wrong way.

I have a Murray with a Briggs & Stratton 625E motor. The gas cap that came with it leaks around the cap badly. No its not the vent and no its not tilted. Yes its the correct cap since I bought it new. I'm not only one with this issue so maybe fix it BS.

Gas cap replacement

I use Troy-Bilt 21" push mower with B&S 725ex 190cc engine.now the gas cap is broken and still under the warranty. Question 1: where can i get the parts for warranty replacement? Question 2: the parts number written on the cap is 798898 but cannot find same one. Is 799585 same as 798898?
Asked by: Massmower
No. The threading is different. I bought 2 of the same Troy-Bilt mowers 6 months apart. Two different model #s and the only non identical part on the mowers are the gas caps. The newer one threads outside the tank neck, the other has threads inside the neck. 796577 will not work for you either.

Need to know which fuel cap to purchase

I have MTD model # 11A-B13L029. The engine is a 550EX. Which fuel cap should I purchase? The threading on the fuel tank is inside the fill hole not on the outside.
