Q: Is this product squirrel proof. With other products they gnaw a hole in the feeder

1 Answer
  • A: Hi there, Thanks for the question. Here is the information we received from the vendor- The feeders are not rodent/squirrel resistant but we do make varmint guards to help eliminate the damage they can do. Unfortunately we do not carry those at Tractor Supply. You can find those on the Boss Buck website.

Q: yes the flow rate is the corn flowing into the drop down neck into the feed tubes, you can adjust it wide open or limit the flow by side bolts, so when it's wide open what is the flow rate i.e how much cord does it dispense when the flow rate is wide open

1 Answer
  • A: Hey Clifton 78, Here is the information I received from Boss Buck This item has not been assigned a specific flow rate. You have two options to control the rate at which the feed is dispensed: 1. The Gravity head. It allows the feed to come straight down the shoot, based on how you have inner sleeve (located in the 3 way head) set. If the sleeve is up high the feed will drop slower, if the sleeve is lower the maximum amount of feed will drop down. 2. The Spinner head. This feature uses the timer to help dispense feed. Again how the spinner head is set and how much time is set on the timer, will determine how much feed is dropped. THEY ALSO SUGGESTED VISITING THERE WEBSITE using the following link. Just copy and paste it into a website browser. https://www.bossbuck.com/200-lb-feeders/ once on the page for the Leg Option use the drop down feature to select Multi piece and for the Deliver System select Protein & 12v Spinner. This will bring up lots of great information on this feeder.

Best Feeder at price point

Great Feeder. I bought 2 after going through the cheaper French sounding brand every year or so. The raccoons and squirrels would destry the French sounding brand, but these Boss Bucks are tanks in comparison. Also, the coons haven't been able to get to the feed. Im sure they could in certain circumstances, but hasnt happened to mine yet. Very solid construction and easy to put together. Only little issues of note are- The legs are week, youll want to get the feet and some construction stakes so hogs wont knock it over. Also, remember to line up the logos on the feed tube and the hopper when putting together, or youll have to fix the alignment.

Horrible product/squirrels chewed right through

Horrible product and horrible customer service. About three months after we bought this, the squirrels chewed a hole in it. I was just out of the warranty period so my husband patched it up. The next week, they chewed a second hole in it. I emailed the company with pictures just to let them know and NO response. I emailed them a second time and no response. Three months after that I tried again, and got a response that they were sorry, not covered under warranty but I could have 10% off my next product that doesnt work. Could not get past talking to someone in the Phillipines.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Poor product for the price

I am writing this review to warn other buyers. I have a less than one year old boss buck that squirrels have eating through the feeder, causing failure. I have two of these feeders and love everything about them except that animals can eat through the plastic very easy. I would recommend metal feeders instead.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Boss buck feeder

Feeder seems to be made fairly well. So far it’s working just as it should with no issues yet. However, I don’t have bear or hogs in my area only deer and a few critters. I smeared a thin coat of petroleum jelly on the legs of the feeder and haven’t had any trouble with critters, climbing the legs so far. 4 stars cause deer seem to be taking an extra long time to warmup to it. It has a strong plastic smell out of the box, and I believe that’s why.

OK but somewhat flimsy

Well, the unit that holds the feed seems to be OK based on what I can see. I haven’t put anything in it yet but the problem I’m having with the unit now is the legs on it are so cheap and flimsy. I don’t even know how the thing would even stand up by putting 200 pounds of weight in it. I am currently looking at buying top rail for chain-link fence which is the same diameter but much Sturdier than what comes with the unit, which is three pieces of fairly thin metal that snapped together. with this in mind, I overall think the unit is extremely overpriced for what you get and it doesn’t even come with any kind of feet to support the unit on the ground. You have to buy them extra.

I ordered 1 of these as I already have two in use for about three years. They work great but have to use the foot pads that are bought separately because legs sink in ground and spill the corn out!

Feed Tube

The tube inside the feeder that leads to the feed chutes is shoddily cut. It has a significant impact on grain flow. It is easy to fix with a saws all to properly cut it. When I fixed this one I also had to fix the same model that my son had bought the year before. It’s just the result of shoddy workmanship. Other then that the feeder is fine.

Bad auality control and cheap legs.

Missing bolts that secure the feeder tubes. Also the hole that are there so secure the feeder tubes are in the wrong position. The way they are lined up puts the feeder tubes directly in line with the legs which makes it almost impossible for the deer to eat. I had to drill new holes and use my own bolts to assemble the feeder. The legs are also very cheap and flimsy.  In all this feeder is worth around $150 max. For the pricing should be a bit more sturdy and be built properly.
