IT ALL STARTS WITH GREAT SOIL! We created this natural & organic, premium blend soil specifically for potting because we realized how crucial the proper ratios, drainage, and nutrient factors are. That's why this soil includes natural, organic, and nutritious fertilizer as well as dolomitic limestone and yucca extract for moisture control. It's the perfect solution when planting herbs, fruits, veggies, and flowers in containers, pots, and raised beds both outdoor and indoors. We're also proudly Peat-Free! Why? Because Peat is one of Mother Nature's most important stores of carbon. Instead of imported peat, the base of our soils is made from upcycled plant matter & wood fines from around the United States! Q: Looking for a guano free potting mix. I see it has poultry litter and feather meal. Is there any guano, sludge or waste products (found in some national brands)?

Q: What are the exact ingredients in this product?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. Per the vendor, "Our soils are made from processed forest products, coir, limestone, fertilizer, mycorrhizae, and moisture-balancing yucca. Depending on the soil bag, the organic fertilizers could have ingredients derived from milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, or soy. Please read through each soil bag's exact ingredients in case you have any allergies to any of these ingredients. If very severe, we'd recommend being careful using our soils & talking to a doctor first. All of our bagged soil has poultry litter, feather meal, and sulfate of potash."

  • A: Hello! Our Organic All-Purpose Potting Mix is not specifically a loam-type soil. It is a premium blend with plant food, yucca extract, and dolomitic limestone, its base is made from upcycled plant matter and wood fines, not a balance of sand, silt, and clay like loam. It's designed for both indoor and outdoor use and is peat-free, making it suitable for a wide variety of plants. Q: I am highly allergic to sulfur. Does this mix have sulfur in it?

1 Answer
  • A: Hi Tyna! All potting soils naturally contain sulfur and sulfur compounds at varying levels. Anaerobic bacteria can also produce sulfur as they break down organic material. This is a normal part of the soil’s natural processes. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us at contact@backtotheroots.com—we’re happy to help!

Soil is nice and moist really to plant with

Replanted a perennial that was being chucked out by some other plants. So I used the Back to the Roots potting soil. The soil was perfect. It was moist and don’t have clumps of dirt. It was perfect to dump in my planter and plant my perennials. So far the roots are growing better. However the plant hasn’t recovered well and turning green. It could be this strange weather in Texas where is 90° for a couple days the rains for a couple days and it’s in the 60°s

It’s okay

This potting mix is okay. I found it to have a lot of wood chips that were large. I had to hand pick the out so that it would not affect my seed growth. I did not notice any unusual odors or any unpleasant smells. The bag size was Huge so I will get multiple uses from It.

Made in USA organic potting and mix

I received this product for free from influencer and Back to the Roots campaign in a exchange for my honest review. Thank you for sending me Back to the Roots | Gardening, organic potting mix to try. I’m a sucker for anything make in America. So when I saw this potting mix proudly shouting “ Make a USA” , it had my vote before I even touched the bag. Then the marketing team really went for it: “ Premium Blend”, “ All Purpose”, “ Good for a Fruits and Flowers”, “ Grow Bigger plants”. At the point, I was basically being seduce by dirt. Gardeners know the truth- you can judge so the way some people just wine. One look, one sweet, and you know it’s the good stuff. When I opened this bag, I practically gasped. Deep black color, rich texture, freaky enough for roots to wiggle through and water to cling like is holding on for their life. This wasn’t dirt. This will promise. Sorry like this carries the quiet hope or future harvests. So today I plant a Calamansi tree, feeling oddly, proud - with a sense of satisfaction, hope in the beginning of something good .

My plant loves the soil

My plant loved this soil. It has grown so much. I haven’t notice any mold or anything like that. I think it works well for my plants. It is not drying and stays moist enough for the plant.
