4health with Wholesome Grains Adult Salmon and Potato Formula Dry Dog Food

We have a chocolate lab and like many other labs he developed skin allergies. I switched him to chicken or lamb & rice formulas in other brands to avoid corn but he didn't like them and his skin got a little better but he still flaked and scratched. I tried 4health chicken and rice because it also avoided soy and other stuff. I saw more improvement in his coat rather quickly but he still didn't like it and he would wait until his stomach was grumbling loudly before eating it. I thought he'd get used to it eventually but he didn't even after a month (he was also a little chunky and I wasn't going to waste the bag when I knew he was getting better). Then I saw this formula and though I'd give it a try. My dog loved it!! When I opened the bag he was all over me while I filled his feed bin. I feed him some out of my hand and he gobbled it up like a treat. When I put it in his bowl he ate it without any hesitation. I am sure with all the healthy ingredients in this food and the fact that he is actually eating it - he will continue to improve. I was beginning to think I would never find a healthy dog food that he would like to eat. Now I have one!

Beware of this food if your dog has food allergies. The front of the bag says the food has no wheat, corn, or soy, but that is not accurate at all. I fed this to my dog for just a couple days and realized she was having an allergic reaction to it (hives, scratching, flaky skin). I was confused because she's done well with salmon-based foods in the past and this food claimed to be free of her allergens. That's when I checked the ingredients list; canola oil, which is a corn product, was one of the main ingredients listed. So this food may work for other dogs without food allergies, but my low rating is due solely to the fact that the ingredients are misrepresented on the bag when compared to what's actually in it.
