Planter system fails in the wind

I used the Gen 1 planter this year on my backyard deck for a small determinate cherry tomato plant. Everything worked great until the plant got to its mature size (about 3-4 ft tall). Whenever we would get a decent amount of wind, the trellis system would fall apart and the plant would fall with it. It was very frustrating especially since the pot is marketed as a “tomato planter. ” I am not talking about hurricane winds. Just the normal summer stuff.

Great Planter, okay trellis

I love these planters so much I have 3 of them. I appreciate the self watering feature and love the aesthetic. However, I’ve grown tomatoes over two seasons now and the trellis isn’t strong enough for indeterminate varieties. Even some of my dwarf determinates are too big for the bars to support because they come apart at the plastic elbows too easily. Once they grow over the top there’s no holding it together. Now that I have a couple seasons under my belt, I think these are probably the best for snacking peppers, so that is what I will do next year.
