125x75x16 shop furnace

The BTU rating on the unit itself is much less than advertised, however it does put out a lot of heat if you keep if fed once an hour with wood. The flue piping ended up costing around $1,000, so make sure you budget plenty for exhaust piping. I have installed the unit without duct work, and have it exhausted into a 9,375 sq/ft shop. On a ~40 degree Fahrenheit night, I was able to maintain 71 degrees inside the shop by adding wood every 3 hours.

Awesome! Buy it!!

This wood furnace kicks butt!!! It’s so awesome we installed this fall and it is so effect compared to our old stove. Heating a 2700 sqft colonial home we built a plenum and duct work for it , and I wired it myself very straight forward and user friendly. Heats the home to 70 in a matter of 20 minuets very impressed. Only burning about 16-20 pieces of wood in a 24 hr span of time holds big bed of coals for 12 hours easy so starting fires after coming home from work or waking up in morning is super easy. Can’t say enough good things if your considering just buy it you won’t regret it!!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Less than 1 year honest review.

This is my less than 1 year review. I heated my old home which I sold with an Englander wood furnace that served me well for nearly 20 years. When I bought this I assumed it was as good or better than that unit. Unfortunately, the unit is designed to meet EPA standards rather than working functionally, but It does make creosote fantastically ! Having used a similar firebox in the past , I made sure the wood was cut under 20” so that the interior fire brick would not be hit by the wood. Surprisingly the back wall became so cracked and damaged I’ll have to replace the bricks. It’s possible the adhesive used to attach the fire bricks didn’t allow them to expand and contract properly? Apparently the engineer that designed the retainer plate held in by 3/8 zip screws never thought about having to replace that piece of steel after it twists from the heat and the screw heads become damaged from the heat! The original design of a fixed metal plate worked better. All you had to do is to push the brick up and pull them out. Is it possible this was designed and manufactured in China? Just to be clear, I did follow the instruction plate on the front of the furnace, it didn’t matter. I heated my home last year using only the furnace and will try again after I repair the fire box. We’ll see how it works this season.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Looks can be deceiving.

Very disappointed. The firebox is extremely small, The amount of heat being produced is about half as much as my old Hotblast. After 3 weeks of trying every possible solution, we returned it to the store for a full refund. Then we purchased a Hotblast, now we are happy.

We hate to hear that you were not satisfied with your HB1520. The newer, more efficient, designs can be a learning curve if you are familiar with older style heaters. We are pleased to hear that you were able to buy another Hotblast 1500 and are now pleased with it. USSC

Greatly concerned!

The creosote keeps clogging the flu/pipe and is running down the sides! Every few weeks we have to have it cleaned. The chimney installer has done several older models and says all of the newer ones do this? This is very dangerous and frustrating. Any ideas?

No, I do not recommend this product.

Creosote production is causes from high moisture content wood, or from burning the stove at too low of temperatures. There may not be a sufficient draft from the chimney to sustain the fire. All newer stoves do require a lot more draft than previously unregulated stoves. The chimney is what is creating and sustaining the draft. Please give us a call at 1-800-750-2723 ext. 5050 and we can help determine some steps you can take to help improve the draft and prevent the formation of creosote. USSC
