Q&As

1 - 10 of 28 Questions

Q: What is the reason that it is rated coal only?

1 Answer
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question. The #1500 is specifically designed for coal. Its firebox, grates, airflow, and materials are optimized for coal combustion. Using other fuels like wood could cause poor combustion, excessive smoke, or damage, and may void the warranty.

A: You should be able to purchase these parts either online at www.usstove.com or you can call us at 1-800-750-2723 ext. 5051. These items are cast iron and it is recommended that they be seasoned with several small fires before using them in a large, hot fire in the stove.

Q: Can you use charcoal briquettes that you normally use on the bbq? And can you use home made charcoal that you created in a burn barrel?

1 Answer
  • USStoveExpert
A: This furnace is capable of burning both Bituminous and Anthracite coal. Anthracite is perhaps the best coal fuel because of its long even burn time, high heat output, and cleanliness which make it a good choice for the home. However, keep in mind it is a much more difficult fuel to use, requires more care and patience, is not so widely available, and is usually much more expensive than Bituminous. You will find lots of helpful information on coal burning in the owner's manual!

Q: How long will 70lbs of coal last given the heating specifications for about a 2500 square foot home? Will it last 24hours or will it need to be filled more than once a day?

1 Answer
  • USStoveExpert
A: We can't quantify an exact burn time. There are a lot of variables that go into this, such as the type of coal used, burn method, and chimney setup. However, we can tell you that in a 24 hour period you may need to add more coal depending on your damper settings.

Q: What model would you recommend that don't need to be hooked to duct system. And where I could see one in person in Indiana

1 Answer
  • USStoveExpert
A: We manufacture many freestanding wood stoves. They all operate in a similar way, but it is important to pick one out that is size appropriate for the area you are trying to heat! We would recommend contacting your local Tractor Supply store to inquire about which floor models they are currently running!

Coal furnace

I know it says coal however we burn wood in it and it does just fine. Remember to burn the 1st burn outside to get the finish burned off unless you want a smoke filled house. We learned the hard way. This does a great job with wood though. .

Yes, I recommend this product.
