Troxel Dakota Horse Riding Helmet

I'd been wearing an IRH Medalist helmet that I bought about 15 years ago when I competed in local shows but since I no longer ride that 'formally' I figured it was time to switch to something less stuffy and more fun. I came across the Troxel Dakota and loved the look so I bought it and it definitely did not disappoint! The fit is great, very comfortable and light, and I love the way it looks on me. I ride English pleasure but also have a Western saddle for trail riding and the look of the Dakota fits both. Highly recommend!

I bought this helmet in grizzly brown a few years ago and have been totally happy with it as far as fit and looks—I’m very happy that I have not had to test the safety rating! I do like that it has more of a visor for shade and that I can forget I’m wearing it. The ventilation is good, and in Southern California, that is a must. It been used for general pleasure riding. When I saw that Smartpak had them on sale, I decided to get the paisley brown for myself and a new grizzly brown for my husband as he wears a different size. We are both pleased. One thing about the grizzly brown color is that it definitely is unisex, and a male rider will not hesitate to wear it, and a helmet has to be worn to be any good! I measured in the middle of the large range, and husband measured in middle of the medium range, helmets fit us well, no wiggle but not too tight. They stay on and do not shift if we bend over without the strap fastened. I would say they are more oval shaped than the previous Troxels as I used to be able to put my fingers under the helmet on both sides of my head while front to back was snug on an old Troxel. I do not ride without a helmet, and am pleased to find a helmet that fits well, looks good, and is fairly priced.

Helmet is very lightweight, comfortable, and looks nice (paisley is subtle but fun, grizzly is a nice plain option). Very snug fit. I measured right between a Medium & Large and decided to order up. Very glad I did, because it is almost tight on me. Unfortunately, my brother who measured well within "Large" had to return his because it was way too tight.

I've been a die hard CO helmet wearer for the last 10 years but decided to try getting a fun schooling helmet and purchased the Dakota in Grizzly Brown. I was very happy to see that the brown is a lot more brown than it appears in photos. I love the design, it's fun and cute but still feels professional. It's also a lot more comfortable than I was expecting! Overall a big fan.
