Spectracide Fire Ant Shield Yard Protection Granules kills fire ant mounds and prevents new mound formation. Use outdoors on lawns and as a band treatment around your house foundation. This formula starts to kill in minutes and provides season-long control (up to 3 months) against red imported fire ants. It kills the queen and colony fast and also helps protect your home from invading ants (except carpenter and pharaoh), crickets, chinch bugs, billbugs, fleas, roaches, ticks (German and American) and other listed insects. This fire ant killer granules cover up to 5,000 square ft. of lawn. Apply Spectracide Fire Ant Shield Yard Protection Granules with a fertilizer spreader at the rates indicated on the back of the bag. Apply when the grass is dry, then water in lightly immediately after application. You can also use as a spot treatment against listed ant types - apply over and around each anthill. Treat ants (except carpenter and pharaoh) when they first appear or when you notice lawn damage.

Results as a spot treatment.......

I am rating the product only as a spot treatment. The package directions gave instructions for using as a spot treatment, and that is only how I used it. It definitely chases the ants out of their hill, but within a day they set up house 2 feet away in just as big a hill. Which is not exactly effective as an eradicator. But with that in mind if I could afford to treat my entire yard, the spot results indicate that they might be chased entirely out of the yard.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Just purchased this online. I didn't have a spreader so I sprinkled it around the perimeter of the house and on 5 ant mounds with a cup. So far so good the red ants are gone!

Fire ant protection

I bought this product about 3 weeks ago. It has stopped my ant problem in its tracks. Just sprinkle around the mound and on top and come back later to find them dead. Awesome job Spectrraside !
