Cord has slit in it

I ordered two of these the only one was in the box. The one that did come had a little slit in it. Perhaps somebody was cutting open the box of cords and accidentally cut into one of the them. I was leaving town did not have time to return it. So I just use some Electrical tape to cover the slit. The cord seems to work fine.
