The Smith's 6 in. DualGrit Double-Sided Sharpening Stone offers 400 grit and 1,000 grit in one sharpening stone. The new 6 x 1.75 sized whetstone rests in a plastic base and has a plastic lid to protect the stone when not in use. During use, the plastic lid can be inserted into the bottom of the stone base to extend the height of the base and make sharpening your knife safer. The user's fingers grip lower on the base and remove any chance of cutting your fingers when pulling or pushing the knife's cutting edge across the sharpening surface.

Q&As

1 - 3 of 3 Questions

Q: Should the stone be soaked in water for 10 minutes first? I’m using Smith’s Honing Solution. Can the solution be used to oil loppers?

1 Answer
  • A: Howdy neighbor! You do not need to soak this sharpening stone in water because applying the honing solution directly to a dry stone gives you the perfect surface glide. The honing solution should also not be used on your loppers since it is a water-based cleaner that will evaporate and fail to lubricate the moving joints. For your loppers, a standard 3-in-One oil or a quick spray of WD-40 is the best choice to keep the blades moving smoothly and rust-free.

Q: What material is the stone made of

1 Answer
  • A: The Smith's 6 in. Dual-Grit Double-Sided Sharpening Stone is made of synthetic bonded abrasive. Specifically, both sides of the stone are composed of aluminum oxide grains, which are preferred for their durability and consistent cutting ability when sharpening carbon and stainless steel tools.

Good price. Needed something to sharpen my chisels. This was great. I just purchased a separate higher grit block to go with it.

YOU NEED THIS MORE THAN YOU KNOW!!!

Let me start off by saying that I am very particular about my knives and how they are sharpened. I have spent a boat load of money on knives and I don't own a dull one. This is an excellent whet rock and as long as you know what you're doing, I truly believe that you will not have an issue with this product. The stone itself is made of some sort of synthetic material but does just as well as any of my natural stones that are 2 to 3 times as expensive. The top becomes the base to give you extra room to hold so you can safely push or pull your blade on the surface and greatly reduces the chance of an accidental cut. I wouldn't recommend this to someone that is just starting to sharpen their blades because there is a chance of scarring up the surface if you don't properly hold the blade at the correct angle. It's at an intermediate and higher level, in my opinion. It's a must buy stocking stuffer for the hunter, fisherman, or just the outdoorsy type or for yourself!!

    Yes, I recommend this product.
