For dogs experiencing incontinence issues, Proin can provide relief. This FDA-approved medication comes in a chewable tablet containing phenylpropanolamine to aid in the treatment and management of urinary incontinence in dogs. It works as an adrenergic agent to help dogs with leakage of urine by tightening the bladder sphincter muscle. The chewable tablet form offers a palatable, easy-to-administer option for dogs needing incontinence treatment. How it Works
Proin works to tighten the urethral sphincter muscle responsible for the prevention of urine leaking. Its active ingredient is phenylpropanolamine which works as an adrenergic agent.
Special Precautions
Dogs exhibiting hypersensitivity to Anipryl should not take the drug. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Overdose Information
In case of Proin overdose contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room. Symptoms of overdose may include increased thirst, urination and hunger, hyperactivity, personality change, and reduced heat tolerance.
Side Effects
Phenylpropanolamine is known to cause a response known as "fight or flight." This may lead to side effects including:
- High blood pressure
- Increase in heart rate
- Restlessness
- There may also be a reduction or loss of appetite which may have long term issues.
Store in a dry and cool environment. 68° to 77°F (20° to 25°C)
Tips
The main cause of urinary incontinence in dogs is infection of the bladder which leads to an increased urge to urinate. Bladder infections in dogs means their bladders are only emptied partially during urination. Consequently, urine is smelly because it is only partially emptied.
Blood may appear in the urine from cancer, calculi or tumors which can cause infection.
