What is marketed as a "harmless spray" is, in fact, very harmful—especially when it is dispensed rapidly, potentially into your cat's eyes and face. This uses a substance called R(efrigerant)-134a, or tetrafluoroethane—the same chemical used in home refrigerators and air conditioners. The cold and intensity of the blast at close range carry a real risk of permanent damage your cat's eyesight or hearing. This is also terrible for the planet. According to the EPA, it has an atmospheric lifespan of around 14 years and a global warming potential of about 1300, a measure of heat retention compared to the same volume of carbon dioxide. Effectively, releasing this chemical has the same effect as releasing 1300 times the amount of carbon dioxide.

It has worked on both of our cats they won't go around the furniture anymore! It is a little expensive but it is well worth it to me!

I have been using this to keep the cat off the counters. It works so well that all I have to do now is just set it on the counter where he can see it and he says off. He also used to go behind a rocking chair and scratch up the back. I just put the can next to the chair and he no longer goes behind it. I decided to try it out in the barn where the deer can get at my horses alfalfa. I set it on the ledge of the alfalfa shelf and it really keeps the alfalfa safe from the deer.

Works great in the house at keeping my cats out of trouble!
