  • Wintergreen boxwood, aka Korean boxwood or Littleleaf boxwood, is one of the more cold hardy varieties of the boxwood shrubs
  • Great choice as a foundation plant, formal hedge or in landscape designs
  • Tolerant of transplanting, the shallow roots of the Wintergreen boxwood are easy to move to the desired planting site
  • Wintergreen boxwood growth rate is on the slow side, growing between 2 in. to 3 in. annually until fully mature
  • Full grown Wintergreen boxwood can grow up to 3 ft. to 4 ft. tall and 4 ft. to 5 ft. wide, making it a more boxy plant
  • When pruning Wintergreen boxwoods, all you really need to do is remove dead and diseased branches; you can also trim overgrown branches to help improve the airflow
  • Wintergreen boxwood is simple to look after when you know a few things to look out for; weekly watering is recommended for the first 2 years after planting your boxwood and mulching is recommended for retaining moisture; fertilize lightly in early spring
  • Features a very dense, compact growth habit, making the boxwood shrub excellent for borders or fences
  • Broadleaf evergreen/Korean boxwood/wintergreen variety has a botanical name of Buxus microphylla
  • Avoid planting in windy areas; their soil needs are adaptable, although they prefer organic, well-drained soil
  • Requires shearing or pruning in the spring to achieve and maintain their desired shape
  • Wintergreen boxwood bush is well known for its continuous dark green color
  • Does not ship to AK, AZ, CA or HI

Q: What is the botanical name for this cultivar? I'm reading conflicting info in regards to mature size for 'wintergreen' boxwoods. The botanical name will ensure I'm getting the right one for my planting application.

I was a professional landscaper for years. I was beyond disappointed in the size and quality of these scrubs. I attempted to nurse them back to health; however, once we planted them, they all died.
