Solid construction, and adaptable for loading our canoe onto our Outback, and then removing the loader because we have a good system for securing the canoe to the car for travel. It's sturdy, adjustable and helps us get the canoe up and above the car, and then off again handily.

We purchased this loader because our Subaru is too tall for my wife and I to easily load and unload our heavy "lake boat" canoe. The instructions are a little sketchy, so it took me a bit to understand the concept of how the loader works and thus how to assemble it. The most difficult part of assembly was attaching the upright pole (outer sleeve) to the trailer hitch. I bought a separate hitch so that I wouldn't have to take the ball on and off of my existing hitch. At any rate, it is difficult to tighten down the nut on the pole - I used a strap wrench, but the pole still moved a bit while tightening. A vise might work, but I don't really want to ding the paint. Anyway, I got it together, and it works fairly well. It is a little sketchy to keep the canoe lodged in the holder while you either load or unload the canoe - you are supposed to keep it in place with a bungy cord (not supplied). Our Subaru is pretty tall, so I am going to try using a rope from the canoe to tie it to the holder along with the bungy cord to keep it from slipping out of the holder. Bottom line - this loader works pretty well, with a few glitches.

I had to stabilize with straps and “s” hooks on each side of the rack. Other than that this rack makes for easy on and off on my pickup truck. Have enjoyed using a few times now!!

Works great. I can now easily load my canoe by myself.
